  • Work with expert craftsmen in a historic neighborhood

The museum guided tour was excellent and the workshop itself was amazing. It's fascinating to learn about knives and the history of metalwork in the area. The entire family has a history of knife sharpening and working with them, you can really feel the mastery of the art. Yuji was an excellent and knowledgeable guide and translator too, and made communication between all parties seamless. Highly recommend this!

This was an AWESOME experience! Yuji was our guide and meet us on time at Sakai station. We walked about 1/2 mile to the knife museum. Yuji spoke English very well and explained the displays in museum to us. We then walked a little more and went to a small shop where we meet Wada and 84 year old master knife sharpener ( forgot his name). They showed us and explained how to correctly sharpen knifes. Then they assisted us in sharpening our knifes that we chose after we booked our tour. Then we had the privilege of putting on the handle on our knifes! That was so neat bc the owner is 94 years old and he still is working! After we were done they served us hot tea. Yuji then walked us back to the station. We will never forget this wonderful knife sharpening experience in Osaka. I will now never have a dull knife in my kitchen! It was very much worth the cost for the experience, your own knife, and the knife you chose could be engraved whatever words you want on it. Mahalo Yuji and the knife sharpening masters!

If you are looking for an authentic experience that goes beyond the typical Japan tour, you have found it. You will learn how to sharpen knives from two Japanese lords aged 80 and 94 who have been dedicated to it all their lives and from an interpreter who will translate every word of these craftsmen. 100% recommended.

First of all, Yuji took us to the knife museum, we learned how they made and we amazed there's so many different kinds of knives. Then he took us to the authentic knives shop, and we experienced sharpen knife. It was my first time to do that, but they took enough time to explain how to do, so that I feel we can do it by myself later. Also we experienced to put knife grip. It was a great experience! I highly recommend people who wants to the authentic craftsmanship.

I am the type of traveller appreciates tradition craftsmanship, tools making and art. I really enjoyed this visit. My guide Yuki brought I and two others visitors to the knives museum first, without his explanation, I definitely won't know anything about Japanese knives. After the museum visit, we went to a old knife making shop. We met the owner and his crews. They taught us how to sharpen a knife, it was a very enjoyable and satisfying experience because we actually worked on the knife that we will take home at the end. I have so much fun and respect to their craftsmanship. Highly recommended.

I bought 2 Japanese kitchen knives a year ago. I wanted to learn the traditional way of sharpening them with a Japanese whetstone. I have been searching for a class just like this one for quite some time. This experience exceeded my expectations! The teachers in this class have been making knives for 5 generations. They provided a dull knife to learn on, all of the necessary stones, and they explain the differences. The class also comes with a handmade traditional Japanese knife. The knife can be inscribed with your name in Japanese. The best part is they teach you how to attach the handle onto the knife. You will actually attach your own handle on your knife! The guide (Yuji) will meet you at the train station, and teach you about Japanese knives in a nearby museum. After the museum experience you will walk to the shop and start the class. Yuji speaks excellent English so the language barrier is not a factor at all. I would highly recommend this experience if you are looking for an authentic Japanese knife class or just want to learn more about Japanese knives.

This is one of my favorite craft tour experiences to date. I enjoy knife sharpening and own a couple of small stones, so I really wanted to do this tour to better my technique. I did not expect to learn about katanas, but visiting a workshop and talking to the person that makes them along with knives was very interesting. Overall I was really inspired by the passion and the professionalism of the craftsmen (including the sharpener and the handlemaker) we met, and Yuji was there to translate, though some of the language can run quite technical. We did run over in time, so Yuji was going to tinker with the schedule. Also the metalware is pricey so you will need a bundle of cash (is credit ok?) on hand if something random catches your eye, but the pieces are very pleasing. If you are interested in bladed tools, jump on this tour!
