In the 1850s, the renowned explorer Heinrich Barth stayed in Agadez, and you can still visit his house to gain insight into his travels and research. Handicrafts play a vital role in the local economy, with artisans creating beautiful Tuareg jewelry, swords, and wooden objects. Today, we depart from Tahoua and make several interesting stops before reaching Yamaa, a charming Hausa village known for its Sudanese-style architecture. The village is home to several small yet imposing mosques, many of which have been awarded the prestigious Agha Khan Prize for their architectural significance. Next, we head to Dosso, where we’ll visit the Sultanate and the famous Djermakoy of Dosso, offering a glimpse into the region’s royal history and cultural heritage. Around 5 PM, we embark on a scenic journey along the banks of the Niger River in a traditional pinnace. As we navigate the river, we’ll encounter local fishermen on the left bank and may even spot herds of hippopotamuses and various species of birds along the right bank. The area is also known for its hippo reproduction zones, providing a unique opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, alongside the vibrant life of a typical river village
