What To Expect
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a reindeer herder? We are local reindeer herders, and we invite you to join us in your daily work! Your journey starts early in the morning - we will pick you up from your accommodation and drive about half an hour to your starting point. From there, you’ll travel through the wilderness in a sleigh pulled by a snowmobile to reach the large reindeer herd. You can take part in feeding the reindeer herd and learn about reindeer herding. After feeding the reindeer, we will build a fire in the forest, grill sausages, and share insights into reindeer herding and the local culture.

5.00Had a great tour with Niilo and other reindeer herders. He was patient, explained everything well and was a great host. We went on a snow mobile/sleigh ride, fed reindeer, and had some nice food sat a campfire! A one of a kind experience and on we’ll not forget.

5.00This excursion was such an amazing experience. Besides seeing the Northern Lights, this was my highlight of the trip to Finland. From the beginning to when we prepared the food and to the end when we fed the Reindeers. The snowy day enhanced the memory even more! Then the camp fire when we cooked some sausages was just the icing on the cake. The owners showed experience, passion and were very attentive to our needs. The is is an experience I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Ivalo/Lapland area in Finland. An unforgettable memory I will never forget and will cherish forever!! We really felt like reindeer herders!

5.00Amazing experience. We learned a lot about the Sami culture, we saw a large amount of reindeer and we fed them. We have a lot of beautiful photos and memories thanks to this experience. We had very cold equipment by the organizer because the temperatures were very cold and we did not get cold.

5.00Best tour I’ve been to so far in my short (? quite subjective here being in my forties) life. Real life, real herders, real -20 celsius, real reindeers. Once in a lifetime experience and special thanks to Niilo who made this day being perfect! Surely recommend to everyone. My family (with a 12 yo daughter) can’t stop talking about it for a couple of days now. Safe, warm and very personal experience.

5.00We had an absolutely unforgettable experience in Ivalo with Ivalo Experience during the activity “A Day in the Life of a Reindeer Herder.” A complete immersion in the heart of Lapland’s nature, an authentic encounter with the reindeer, and a passionate insight into the daily life of herders — everything was perfectly organized. Despite the freezing temperatures, the warm welcome and kindness of Johanna and Niilo made this day truly magical and timeless. We learned so much while experiencing deeply moving and awe-inspiring moments, surrounded by breathtaking snowy landscapes.
