The Kakum National Park was established in 1932. Kakum National Park is a home for lovers of nature. The Park is made up of mostly undisturbed virgin rainforest and is one of the famous national parks in Ghana. It protects plant and animal treasures of the African tropical forest. Trails provide self-guided day hiking opportunities where you may sight some of the over 200 bird species represented: the parrot, bee-eaters, blue plantain-eaters, hornbills, and kingfishers. The dense vegetation provides cover for globally endangered species such as the forest elephant and bongo - the largest forest antelope, as well as various types of monkeys. The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, provides a treetop view of the beautiful forest.

In 1653, following Sweden’s conquest of the Cape Coast, the Swedish Africa Company constructed a permanent wooden fortress for trade in timber and gold. A decade later, the fort was reconstructed in stone when the Danes seized power from the Swedish. The fort then passed through the hands of many foreign powers.

  • Great way to see many historical sites in two days

The tours of the Cape Coast and Accra were well organized and began and ended on time. My guide Nene made me feel at ease as a solo female traveler. He asked for my feedback and made sure I saw everything I wished to see.

I mostly travel to Ghana for work and this time I decided to book the cape coast trip to connect with my history. Although the tour at both Elmina and Cape Coast Castle was too much for us to take in, we enjoyed every part of the tour. The guides at the castles were very good and I enjoyed my lunch very much at the beach restaurant. I will refer this company to my friends who look forward to coming to Ghana. Thank you Zainab for making this trip possible to do.

This tour came highly recommended based on the tour's reviews and surely proved worthy of it. If you are looking for a day trip full of insights, this would be the best tour to take. The drive to Kakum Park was about 4hours so prepare yourself for the long drive. If you want to avoid traffic, coordinate with your guide about the most suitable pick up time in order to avoid the traffic. The roads leading there are good so it shouldn't be a bumpy ride. If possible bring cash as it is the most suitable mode of payment. You could pay with a card some places but the network is not always stable in that part of the country so it could be a challenge to get the machine to accept payments. The food is really good and Rasheeda helped me select my Lunch. I would surely recommend Red Red if you are looking to try an authentic Ghanaian dish. Rasheeda and the driver were very accommodating to my needs and helped me in selecting souvenirs for my family and friends back home. They deserve a 10 out of 10 for their professionalism and enthusiasm they have for their work. For a solo traveller, it was great to have their company on this trip. Ghana is a beautiful country and the people are very friendly. I would love to visit again with my family in the future and surely take this tour again with them.

  • Lack of communication and poor customer service

Frist, of all I would like to start off by saying the country itself, It's a beautiful, wonderful place, rich with culture and history . Secondly, our complete itinerary was changed , the changes were not communicated well at all. I believe that the changes to our itinerary happened long before we made the trip which just recently happened. We booked our trip in April of 2021. We return home to the states Friday December the 10th 2021. It saddens me to say that I would not recommend anyone to take this tour unless you can finalize things , and get a real understanding of what is going to happen. Communicate with your tour person Is a very important factor. We were in constant communication with her up until the day before we flew out of the U.S . Upon our arrival DAY ONE we were told that hotel arrangements had not been secured " per the itinerary ". Also a few other things that should have been communicated are as follows: -The length of the travel time to each destination -WFi service or access -The change in our total trip/ itinerary. I believe these things make a big difference when you are in a foreign country . I am very well traveled, I've traveled all around the world I've spent time in different places and in different regions and cultures and this this took me by surprise completely. I was not expecting perfection, only transparency. I guess it is just an American thing to pay for something and to get what you pay for. I found that was not the case . " let the buyer beware".

  • Great thanks to the amazing guide, Zainab!!

The tour guide Zainab was an amazing person! We really enjoyed our one-day trip from Accra to the Kakum National Park, Elmina Castle and Cape Coast. She was super kind and has a lovely character. During our drive and lunch time, she answered many questions about Ghana, and we learned many things about Ghanaian culture and food. She was very sharp on time management, and it was such an efficient and fruitful on-day trip. The lunch of Ghanaian cuisine at the beach was very relaxing, and we are very thankful to Zainab, who is not only a guide but also a great friend for us!! The ProTour Africa was very fast on responding to my messages via WhatsApp even in a late time in Ghana. I was able to do the payment by my credit card via their website, which was super convenient.

Visiting the Cape Coast and Elimina Castles was an absolutely heartbreaking and life changing experience that every human being needs to experience, to ensure the horrors and atrocities afflicted on the African people are never repeated. Standing in the rooms where thousands of human beings were undeservingly tortured and many lost their lives; feeling the pain and sorrow that will forever live in the walls and floors of those dungeons, is an indescribable experience. To ignore, downplay, or refuse to acknowledge the true depravity and savagery that Europeans are capable of, as well as the complicity of other Africans and the rest of the world that profited from and continues to enjoy comforts gained from the rape, sodomy, torture, murder and enslavement of those taken into captivity, is to afflict further abuses on the people of the African diaspora, and continue to deny their humanity. Thank you, Ghana, for continuing to give voice to the voiceless by sharing their stories, and honoring the lives and experiences of our ancestors.

This was my first trip to Ghana alone and the ladies at ProAfrica Travel were fantastic!!! I felt even more comfortable as a single woman traveling alone that my guides are women. They were very informative about Ghana and we spoke about many topics along our way both in the city of Accra and the two castles. Rafa and Zainab were awesome guides. Another note it's a female owned travel/guide company and most of the guides are women. I'm all for supporting black female business so single ladies traveling to Ghana alone you're in good hands! Again thank you Rafa, Zainab, and ProAfrica Travel. I wish you ladies much success!!!
