Get a feel for true Ghanaian culture by learning some well-known drumbeats and rhythms on a different array of Ghanaian drums. For the ones interested in working up a nice sweat you can learn some African dance choreography that will be laid out for you step by step and then put together with drumming beats, allowing you to be engulfed in the full West African tribal experience.

What To Expect

This is a 2-hour activity that will be catered to the desires of the traveler. You can include both 1 hour of instruction in African drumming techniques and 1 hour West African dancing choreography, such as the Kpalogo from greater Accra. Or you may decide you just want to learn 2 hours of dance choreography or focus on improving your drumming skills for the duration of the experience. If no message request is given, the normal 1Hr of drum, and 1Hr of dance will be included in your session!

My husband and I did this activity today. It was so much fun! We got individualized attention. Jimmy was an excellent teacher and very patient. We loved the drumming and the dance lessons. Excellent. I would recommend it to anyone. This was one of the most enjoyable experiences we had.

This was a lot of fun! If you’re looking for a good cultural activity, and are short on time, check this out! Jimmy, the instructor, was very kind and welcoming —- and very accommodating as my husband and I arrived quite early for our lesson and Jimmy was willing to start it then. He even recorded part of our drumming session for us. Recommend doing the hour of drumming and hour of dancing instead of just one of those activities for the two hours. We also enjoyed meeting the youth cultural center’s director and learning about some of the activities the center provides for kids in the community.

I had an absolutely amazing experience today. Jimmy Akiti is someone whose character is perfectly suited to teaching drumming. He is kind, calm and very helpful. I can highly recommend him to anyone who wants to have a truly special experience in Ghana.

I had an amazing experience. Jimmy is a patient and efficient teacher. I was able to fully learn the rhythms he showed me on the drums and more than one variation of a traditional dance all in one hour. He takes his time to ensure that you understand and can do each step but also encourages you to naturally enjoy yourself, connecting with the art without being too caught up in learning. Would recommend to anyone visiting Ghana and interested in connecting deeper through culture. Thanks again for an unforgettable experience !

This was one of my favorite experiences in a trip filled with wonderful experiences. It was so fun playing the drums and dancing - and getting to move to a Ghanian rhythm. Our teacher was fun and intuitively knew the best way to approach different styles of learning. We loved it.

We had an amazing time with Jimmy learning about Ghana folk music and dance & drumming. Jimmy is such a great instructor and kind person that the whole family was able to appreciate Ghanaian culture. I highly recommend this experience!

We had a Wonderful time learning a choreographed dance routine as well as a full set on the drums. Our instructor was patient, knowledgeable and fun! Iwas also able to tell that he made adjustments to us based on how we were progressing. I'm so glad we did this. You can't go to Ghana and not learn the culture's dance and drumming language...and this is where you would come to do so!
