Previously we have visited the Flinders Discovery centre at Hughenden and Kronosaurus Centre at Richmond so our interest in Australia's Dinosaur history had been tweaked. So, returning home from a visit to Uluru we took the opportunity to visit to the Age of Dinosaurs facility. Our visit was mid September. We booked the Ultimate Dinosaur Tour - that consists of 3 parts. It gets HOT out there so I advise to do as we did, book the first 'tour' of the day (ours started 09:00am). The 'tour' starts with a walk across the rim (outdoors in the sun) to the Laboratory & Collection facilities. Very interesting to actually see professionals processing fossils and an insight into the time, patience and skill needed to 'extract' the fossil from the large chunk of earth. Back at the centre we watched a film of the field site, extraction and processing with the actual end result, constructed dinosaurs on display. From there we boarded the tram out to Dinosaur Canyon. Outstanding!. Basically they dug up and transported (over 3 years) a section of outback Australia containing multiple 'footprints', preserved it, put it into the building on display. From there you can wander down into the canyon. Highly recommend a visit here.

Our tour guide Bec, was very informative. I would highly recommend Red Dirt Tours. Bec got us from the Fossil Preparation Laboratory to the reception centre where we attended an informative talk and then on to the Dinosaur Canyon Outpost for our tour there in excellent time. A good day was had by all.

The buses, organisation and leaders make them the perfect adjunct to the tours. The infrastructure at the museum is incredible and world class. The presenters at the museum are very professional, presented in a way that was appropriate for all levels.
