  • Scarefest busy with rain...

Stayed at a woodland lodge for 2 nights for Scarefest. Park was very busy. It did rain both days which also caused all rides to be paused for a while on Saturday afternoon. Staff always courteous and professional. Dined at Crooked Spoon first night, food menu was not great, and everything is with chips. Dined at the hotel restaurant second evening, much better menu and variety of food. The lodges themselves, well it's not center parcs. Not much woodland either. Lodges smaller than the website photos suggest and looking dated. No fridge. The second bedroom is just for children, 3 beds, but is very small, no door, just a curtain. They were warm though and plenty of towels and cleaned second day.

A shambles from start to finish, firstly I couldn't get a RAP pass for my disabled son so on the first day he couldn't go on any rides so he had the most miserable time on the first day, to then go to trick or treating town to find it was closed, baring in mind there were no times stated on the ticket, so once again let down, the lovely lady in guest services sorted it for us for the next day and gave us the opening times which was really nice of her. We were staying in the enchanted village woodland lodges and had booked breakfast for both days of our stay, there were 9 of us all together so needed a big table, when we turned up for our time slot, we were told there was no reservations for either day for us but they could squeeze us in on separate tables, with 5 hungry kids we had no choice but to accept it, i spoke to the guest services manager who was lovely and sorted it all out for us however upon her checking her booking system our booking was in fact there for both days which was very frustrating. So after breakfast we went back into the park for another day, this day we managed to get the RAP foe my son who managed to go on a few rides but when it came time to go to trick or treat town it was horrendous, firstly I am my sons carer and previously I have gone through this attraction as a carer foe him but I was forced to pay £10 or they were going to send him in with a 12 year old child and thought that the 12 year old child could handle my autistic son if he were to have an episode inside the attraction! I paid and we went round and got around 20 sweets (mini bags of haribos and moam mini bars) but the experience itself was ok, we came out to find my son had been given an empty packet of sweets, now to the average person this isn't an issue but to a neurodiverse child this was soul destroying, we alerted the manager to be met with "well how do we know he didn't eat them" and "why didn't we tell someone while we were still in the sttraction" my son didn't immediately look in his bag and also was trying to pluck up the courage to say something about his empty packet for a few minutes before he even told us. The manager on this attraction was absolutely horrendous, all he needed to do was apologise and sort it out but instead he was quite happy seeing how distraught my little boy was and just continued to argue and stand in our way after us asking him to go away from us so we could go and speak to guest services about him. My son then cried for the remainder of our time in the park after that and we ended up l3aving early because of this experience, we spoke to guest services who informed us that firstly I should have received a carer ticket to take my son into the attraction and also was appalled by this so called managers behaviour. Most of the staff we came across were amazing and helped us when needed but he was absolutely awful. We go to scarefest every year and always stay on site but this year has really put off returning. We have made the complaint through relevant channels and hopwfully get a response soon from alton towers. If you or someone in your party are neurodiverse or have a disability, i would honestly not recommend Alton Towers again after this experience. What i will mention is the staff in guest services in the park and the guest services manager of the woodland lodges were absolutely amazing and done everything they could to try and help us and even managed to get my little boy to smile again after being let down so many times.

We love Alton Towers and are regular visitors. But wow this time we’ve never seen the park so busy - think they way oversold the tickets. Huge huge queues for the rides forcing you to pay for fast passes - although these quickly sold out resulting in the hour plus queues for the bigger rides. Shame the big stage was gone (small one in mutiny bay was okay) and apart from Towers street you wouldn’t know it was a Halloween event. The two free scare mazes were excellent and we had a great time despite the queueing. Main gripe is the sky ride shuts far too early and they also close some of the paths making the walks between areas very very long. Forbidden Valley to Dark Forest takes ages with kids. Bring back the land train or other options to help guests get around.

Had a really good time at Scarefest. I didn't do any of the Halloween theme activities I just went as the park is open longer and I have always wanted to see the place lit up at night. It was a very good experience with excellent ride availability. Staff were very friendly and helped provide a good experience. Note if your staying at the hotel / Alton towers accommodation and you go to the park early the next day be prepared for nothing to be open and instead strategically plan your first ride and get in to the queue early. We invested in fast track passes which I don't regret for a moment, it is pricey and was justifiable as a one off but saved so much time. The only thing stopping a full 5 stars is the price of everything. It's to be expected. It was £86 for a family for 4 to eat at at splash Landings buffet and that didn't include soda drinks which I thought was a bit tight. In hindsight I would do it all over again.

  • Used an access pass, stayed in Alton Towers hotel

We visited for my daughter’s birthday. She is autistic with ADHD so we got an access pass. I didn’t realise that once you’ve got the pass you have to book your days with it. Fortunately both our days were available. The access pass worked on the whole for her, you basically enter an access queue and they write in the card the time you can go on the next ride. The time is however long the actual queue is for the ride you’ve gotten onto, so if the queue for runaway train is 60 minutes but you only wait 10 minutes in the access queue they write 60 minutes in the card. After 60 minutes you can go on the next ride. I wasn’t too sure this would work as I thought we’d do a lot of waiting around, however maybe we went at a good time as we didn’t really wait longer than 45 mins, and once you factor in walking, toilets, eating, breaks, the time passes quickly enough. We stayed in the smiler room and the smell of gloss paint was over powering… it was not the type of accommodation I would usually choose but it’s what my daughter wanted for her birthday… the rest of the Alton towers hotel is in need of a bit of TLC, restoration and renovation, but in my experience the kids always love it…

Booked a stay at Splash Landings Hotel which included free parking…. Fine if people with petrol cars didn’t park in electric charging bays and not move them which meant we had to sit at a nearby charging stations to get home. Hotel was ok but looking tired. Unfortunately on the night of the 31st both the theme park and hotel stunk of cannabis which was disappointing. Hotel had all inclusive breakfast but I really don’t appreciate children touching and picking up food from serving areas with dirty hands. Feral is the only word that can describe some of the guests at breakfast. Park itself was good but long queue times on 1st November and many rides closing down due to issues- not a problem in the issue of safety. Food very overpriced £3.50 for a bottle of coke/ Fanta etc and food £8 upwards. Coffee shop near entrance needs more staff as can’t keep up with orders and when question if an iced frappe was still cold after watching it sat for 10 minutes waiting for 2 other drinks the member of staff was rude and dismissive. Theme park was good but we won’t be back in a hurry and way too expensive

We went as a family to scarefest, arrived Friday morning at 9am ready to que for the big rides , managed to get on all rides , most we waited was 1 hour , arrived back to our lodge at 10pm to find the lodge not up.to standards, dust , dirty sheets , aswell as dead fly on the bed , housekeeping came out and changed sheets , but left us up until 11.30pm., so we were knackered, we woke up at 8am and went fir breakfast at the crooked spoon, staff were great , food was OK and wasn't to busy , we then went to the park to que up for the big rides at 9am before they opened at 10am , finished the day around about 1pm to travel home , great weekend , lots of entertainment just not happy with accommodation.

My experience of Alton Towers Hotel and Alton theme park. Isn’t very good. We went for a break/a return visit. We changed our hotel to Alton Towers Hotel, Because my children were getting taller(and wouldn’t fit in bunk beds) and we needed single beds. So we upgraded to a sleepover room that held six people. We are all looking forward to it. The day came and we arrived at Alton Towers hotel. We walked into the sleepover room and at first it looked fab. We got Diet Coke and Coke in the room with crisps. A coffee machine and a kettle, obviously. PlayStation and Wii with a few games and big fridge. Then we started having a look at closer to the room. It had piled with dust on the walls, on the curtains, on the disco bal and on floor and under the bed. So we complained, They did come and clean the room up. But I have a dust allergy, so I was on tender hooks the whole time. The bed wasn’t very comfortable compared to we upgraded. First day in the park, everything wasn’t clean. The food was expensive and Only certain things like burgers and hotdogs. If I knew this was case, I would have brought food from Home to bring in the park. Also, the rides were a long wait. (55 mins -100 mins) And to many people . My Daughter couldn’t handle waiting in the queues. (She is autistic and ADHD) There was no facility of getting an access rider pass ( I have been checking for this for the last six months) so basically we got two days pass. And she would struggle and know facility to help her. Inside the park the refill cup were £18 for cuppa and one day of drinks. Then we had to paid £12 for everyday after. The Alton Tower hotel was so expensive for lunch, dinner and drinks. We eat in Flambo’s Jambo restaurant in splash hotel. The food was the same every evening. And there was no facility of having refill drinks like Diet Coke or lemonade this time round. In our evening meal was orange juice, blackcurrant, Strawberry juice and vitamin juice. We went to splash pool and that was really good until to many people was there. It just seem Alton Tower are letting to many people in the park and swimming pool. Letting the experience been ruined. We want be coming back.

  • Most disappointing theme park for accessibility

The family were really looking forward to visiting here but we’re completely let down. It was such a let down. The whole concept of park is completely inaccessible to kids with special needs. Although we applied for a Merlin access pass it was not made clear that we had to still pre book rides a use of the pass? Which is ridiculous because how can you know with a special needs child what ride they will be capable of doing. So this was out the window as we arrived on the 31st oct and the next available slot for the access pass was the 5th dec?! There was no wheelchairs available unless you got up and travelled on the monorail to the park at 8.45am every morning. It was a complete waste of our time and money let alone the disappointment to our son who works for month to get to a heathy place in order to travel in the first place. Extremely disappointing experience. Will never go back and not recommend to anybody

We had 2 days in the park, we stayed in the Cbbc hotel. Nothing special about this hotel at all apart from the decorated walls. I wanted to see characters walking around to meet and greet, I think there should be more entertainment, we only saw a small bit at 5pm whilst waiting for dinner in the Windmill. The dinner was average with a small choice but expensive for what the meals were. For the cost of the hotel I wanted a more magical experience. Breakfast is help yourself which I knew it would be, that was much better than the dinner meals. We wont be staying again but at least we can say we have
