Amazing and should do this experience for knowledge and fun. I am happy I booked and Cristina was a very friendly guide and went above and beyond.

This was a good tour of the markets. We first did the walking tour and then segued into the market tour. Our guide, Christina, was knowledgeable and engaging. There were a few drawbacks being the lunch restaurant in the market was unappetizing. The markets are large and seemingly sell the same items at most of the stalls although we were told the goods are authentically Guatemalan and not mass produced in other countries. Additionally, Christina commandeered a friend’s too small car to transport my family of four to the markets from the public washbasin area. Two adults in our party had to double up in the front passenger seat- very unsafe.

I strongly recommend this. We tasted unique fruits, learned history, and experienced the Antigua market like a local. Our guide was very kind and very good conversation. We even got to make our own tortillas in the market!

I wasn’t offered any fruits as the company advertised. When we went to the tortilla stand, my tour guide Christina told me that it costs 10 GTQ to try making tortilla. I said No because I thought it was supposed to be covered in my tour fee. She then took me to a lunch place. I only ordered rice with veggie but was charged 45 GTQ (the website says the meal should cost $2-4 US dollars). When I reached out the tour agency afterwards, they told me it was supposed to be 20 GTQ so it looks like I ended up paying for my tour guide’s meal (she ordered rice with chicken and a coke). I feel that my tour guide took advantage of me. This is a terrible experience and I would not recommend it.

The market was soooo much bigger than we imagined. Very cool experience and Luis was a great guide. He helped us immensely with our Spanish speaking adventure!

Great tour for the price. It was interesting learning about Antigua and the history behind it. We then got to visit the market and sample some fruit, hand-made tortillas, and a local dish. Overall would recommend!

Valerie is so knowledgeable about her adopted home of Antigua, I learned so much from her in the short time I spent on the tour. She knows both history and recent events, which gave me a lot of context I wouldn’t have otherwise had for the current culture of Antigua. I ended up getting sick partway through the tour and she took amazing care of me and followed up. Highly recommend anyone to book with Due South, I will certainly be using them again next time I’m in Guatemala!

We spent the day with Valerie and Elizabeth learning all about Guatemalan culture and cuisine. These ladies gave us many tips for navigating Antigua and even provided a list of their favorite foodie spots. The best part was walking through the local market and making tortillas with a local family. We tasted fruits and foods indigenous to Guatemala and ate what’s called the national dishes. Highly recommended tour and very thankful for all the information.
