Nara Park

Nara Park is one of the must-see areas in Nara City and is one of the oldest parks in Japan. The vast area covers 660 hectares and is renowned for its free-roaming deer and world-famous temples. These tame creatures are believed to be sacred messengers of the Shinto gods and walk freely in Nara. Over time, these cute deers have learned to bow to visitors-a sign for a treat. For over 1,300 years, humans and deer have peacefully coexisted in Nara. Today, they are protected as Natural Monuments, and revered as holy animals in Nara.

There are around 30,000 Inari shrines in Japan, Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine, to worship the Shinto god of rice, Inari. The shrine is renowned for Senbon Torii, thousands of vermilion red torii gates, which create a stunning and immersive tunnel-like pathway up the sacred Mount Inari. In the 1300 years since its establishment in 711AD, people have gathered here to pray for bountiful harvests, business prosperity, the safety of their home and family, and the fulfillment of all other wishes.

  • Deer, Trains and Bamboo

The Nara deer are a must see!! They really bow when you give them the food, however, be careful, they can be aggressive. The cherry blossoms were just starting which made it beautiful. The train ride was packed but beautiful, my only negative is that they should try arrange the seating better. if you are assigned an ailse seat one way, maybe get a window seat the other way? The bamboo forest and the Fushimi were good, but way too many people to enjoy, we took a few pics and got out of there. The town where this is is full of shops and I suggest you get off the main drag to find the less touristy places.

  • I would chose another tour!

We were under the impression that the tour would be a guided tour. Instead, they were planning on taking us to three different locations and just dropping us off to discover the places listed on the itinerary on our own. We left the tour early and took the train back because it wasn't the tour we thought we bought.

  • The tour is not in line with the activity. Disappointing, I'd rather take the train

There is nothing romantic about the train, it was not available because of the weather. It's the first time I've heard of a train not working because of the weather. The guide was only dedicated to leaving us in place. I was just explaining while we were on our way to the destination but from then on (a pair of jelly that he gave us) nothing worthwhile. The stars are for the driver, the impeccable bus, perfect temperature a/c, excellent driving.

The guide Amy is great. The tour does have a lot of walking, for my eight year old and it was very hot in July but still a lot of fun. Lots of shopping and food available as well. Btw Amy took the picture. She is excellent.
