This was a fantastic experience with wonderful instructors Hawa and Habibiatou who were so kind and informative in showing us how to make the one and only Thieb (Jollof rice)! Definitely a highlight of the trip and i will be using this recipe to impress friends and show them the cuisine of Senegal for years to come! Thank you!

This was an amazing cooking experience. The cook and the translator were both so helpful and there was no point where I felt uncomfortable or lost. The food was delicious, and we even got containers to bring some home. Highly recommend!

I had a beautiful experience at the cooking class! The class had a nice rhythm and flow to it, where me and the other participants had time to talk and connect, and then we had moments where we had to lock in and focus on the task at hand. I loved how therapeutic it all was, and the chefs made us feel like family. Grateful for great memories, for the crash course in Senegalese music, and for the good vibes. Thanks for helping me advance in my wolof too! The only issue I experienced was finding the right location but the coordinator was super helpful and guided me.

I had an incredible experience taking the Dakar Jollof cooking class. I learned so much about the preparation, techniques, unique ingredients and more that go into Theipboudienne. Plus we learned how to make Bissap, the delicious hibiscus mint drink and another rice dish with chicken. As someone who works in the food world, I really appreciated the breakdown and answers to my many questions lol. But beyond the fun recipe tutorials, I really loved how welcoming and encouraging the host and chef were. Awa & the translator bring so much joy to the experience and truly embody the Senegalese value of Teranga! We laughed, joked and danced throughout the whole cooking experience. I not only learned so much, but I also had so much fun and most important of all- the food was delicious!! One of the best parts of the experience was eating together on the ground the traditional Senegalese way. The communal experience, reminds me so much of my Ethiopian culture. I loved it and I highly recommend this class! It was one of the highlights of my trip to Senegal.

What an incredible experience! A must try when you’re in Dakar! This cooking class is well thought out and a true cultural immersion! We made two dishes, Thieboudienne (traditional Senegalese rice made served with fish, red in appearance) and Thiebou Guinar (rice served with chicken, yellow in appearance). This experience was the highlight of our stay in Dakar! Preparation: Ingredients were neatly presented, washed, handled with care. Gloves and hair nets were provided. We were able to ask questions and get hands on! Cooking: The chef provided thorough explanation via the interpreter (a plus because you get two people helping). It’s a hands on experience on experience and you get to blend, sauté and cook the ingredients. They stepped in to demonstrate the traditional parts (like steaming the broken rice a specific away). It was the perfect balance for me as far as demonstration and cooking. I learned a few seasoning and general cooking tips as well so I’m grateful! Oh, and we also made some really good hibiscus tea with mint to go with the meals. I can’t remember the traditional name but it was good!!! Eating: We served and ate the rice on a mat, the traditional way. We were given the option to eat with our hands or with a fork. Vibes: 10/10! Chef Awa and the interpreter Abi were a pleasure to work with. Awa is a ball of fun energy and patient as she teaches and instructs. At the end, they even taught us out some Senegalese dances! We left full & happy. It was a delight!

I’ve just returned from a fabulous day out learning to cook Senegalese’s national dish, Thieboudienne. What a fantastic time. It was a long day, and showed just how much love, attention and care that goes into making a good plate of thieboudienne. Really enjoyed the pace and the thoroughness of the instruction. Unfortunately our stove didn’t quite play nicely with us which meant the class took longer than expected and that we were starving by the time it was ready (not helped by the aromas that wafted about :-)). But BOY was it totally worth it. The richness of the flavors? To die for. I went solo but met the most beautiful ladies from all over the world. We had a great time, sharing and learning and finally eating with our hands, the work of our hands 😆. I rate this experience highly, and would recommend.

Dakar Jollof was such a brilliant experience — honestly one of the best cooking classes I’ve done. From the moment we arrived, the welcome was warm and genuine, and the whole session felt personal and fun. Aunty Hawa was an incredible teacher: patient, clear, and so knowledgeable. She didn’t just show us what to do — she explained why each step mattered, shared helpful tips, and made sure everyone understood and felt confident along the way. Abi was amazing too and kept everything running smoothly from start to finish. She was organised, attentive, and made the whole experience feel easy and relaxed, so we could just focus on learning and enjoying ourselves. And the highlight: learning how to make Thieboudienne in Senegal — in the home of it — was truly special. It felt authentic, hands-on, and deeply cultural, not touristy at all. We left full (and proud!), with real skills we can actually use at home. To top it all off, they even surprised us with a lovely gift at the end, which was such a thoughtful touch and really sums up how generous and welcoming they are. If you’re in Dakar and want an authentic, well-run cooking class with wonderful people, I can’t recommend Dakar Jollof enough.

We had an amazing time at the jollof cooking class! From start to finish, the experience was fun, welcoming, and hands-on. Aunty Hawa really took her time explaining each step, sharing tips, and making sure everyone felt comfortable and included. Her passion truly showed. Abi was also incredibly helpful—always checking in, answering questions, and keeping the energy light and fun. We laughed, learned, and of course enjoyed delicious jollof at the end. Such a great experience overall. Highly recommend to anyone looking to learn, connect, and have a great time! 🍚✨
