Great Trip in awesome nature! Really good and flexible organisation. I believe Walk in Ethiopia organised us one of the best drivers, cars and local guides. We also got good tents and simple but really nice food all time during the hike. Thank you Walk in Ethiopia.

Abdisa knows the Bale Mountains intimately and truly loves the ecosystem. He can instantly identify every bird call without a moment’s thought and can spot an Ethiopian wolf from a kilometer away. I was granted the ability to carry my own pack and set up my own tent despite the fact that most tourists get as much aid as they need. But had I ever needed help, I know I would have been well taken care of. Best of all, I made a friend for life and am in contact with Abdisa to this day. I made a 5 day excursion from the capital Addis to the South East region (Bale Mountains, SofOmar). On the way, the closer I came to the Bale region, the more animals were visible along the main road from inside the car: monkeys, wart hogs, antelopes, many different birds. Perfect for taking pictures. The central Bale mountains are an experience of its own: Afro-alpine grassland, barren landscapes, thick alpine rain forests, peaks and plateaus, and plenty of endemic wildlife (rare birds, endemic giant rats, …). I made several hikes to the most beautiful spots although there are several camping opportunities in the Bale Mountains. For an extraordinary outdoor adventure, all camping material is available and can be rented. Local guides are available and can fulfill all special requests for the most impressive experience. The trip included a day excursion to the Sof Omar cave (~100 km), the largest underground cave system in Africa. It contains huge domes, clean waters, and we walked inside with local guides for 2-3 hours. It is an amazing landscape with very friendly local people. Overall Summary: I was very satisfied with the trip. In just a few days one can see all the beautiful landscapes of Ethiopia: from the very dry and hot areas in the Rift valley with its many fascinating lakes (some lakes have boiling hot springs) to lots of green hills and alpine plateaus around Bale. The driver and the guides acted responsible and trustful, and all attractions could be visited completely hassle-free.
