Months before our cruise to Mazatlán I booked the Flavor Teller “Seafood Secrets” tour. It sounded like a perfect excursion for our day in port and I liked it even more because it had limited walking. (I recently had knee surgery.) A few days before our cruise, we were notified that our itinerary had been completely changed and now instead of a Friday, we were to be in Mazatlán on Thursday. The Seafood Secrets tour was not offered on that day so we had to cancel. Our money was refunded immediately, but we were left without a tour. I checked online and the only Flavor Teller tour offered on Thursday was the Barrio Bites tour…and it was full. I was so disappointed but decided to send an email and ask if a second tour “might” be offered. Within a couple of hours, the owner, Maaike, replied that she would add a tour just to accommodate our group of four! Spending the day with Maaike felt like being with an old friend. She was full of information about local food and also the area in general. We could tell she had a wonderful working relationship with the food vendors at each stop. Luis, another guide, also came along for the day and he and my husband had a great time talking about their love of bikes! Our group has traveled a great deal and at the end of the day we all agreed Barrio Bites was one of the best tours we have ever taken. In most cases, the servings were far bigger than just samples and everything was so delicious. We would have never discovered the places we ate on our own and by the end of the day we felt like locals! Transportation to each of the seven stops in the tour was provided in an Auriga taxi which made the tour so much more enjoyable for me and my bad knee! Although this was our first visit to Mazatlán, I would love to return and take one of the other Flavor Teller tours!

Wendy was an amazing tour guide who took us through the historic district of Mazatlan, tasting a variety of foods along the way. It was a fun way to see the city and have some good food along the way!

This Barrio Bites tour was one of the highlights of our visit to Mazatlan! My husband and I had so much fun eating the local way. Each food stop was unique and delicious! Maaike shared many interesting stories and local food knowledge with us too. I highly recommend this tour as both a way to experience Mazatlan cuisine as well as a wonderful tour of some of Mazatlan's neighborhoods. I can honestly say that our visit to Mazatlan wouldn't have been complete without this tour!

We were a little surprised that our 10 am tour was of breakfast locations, but now we understand that breakfast ends at around 1pm. Even so, we got to have some tacos and other foods that were fantastic! Mika was hugely knowledgable and obviously loved by the local food trucks who roll out the red carpet for everyone. We saw local tortilla shops, seafood specialty shops and even a micro brewery. Food was excellent and the service was outstanding! Highly recommend.

What a wonderful experience and opportunity to taste some of the best food Mazatlan has to offer. Wendy, our tour guide, was born and raised there, had so much to add to the tour with her extensive knowledge and experience of the area. This is a must do if interested in finding the authentic family owned places one might not try if out on your own. Thx Wendy, amigas for life. - Lucinda

This was my second food tour in Mazatlan and it wasn’t that good. Out of the 7 stops only 3 had more than a snack. The soup stop, lunch stop and taco stop were good, the other 4 not so much. It was a lot of driving between stops.

You visit about 7 stops and they were places we wouldn't have know about on our own. Wendy was our tour guide and she was wonderful! She was very personable, friendly, knowledgeable and spoke great English. We were a party of 6 and it was Steve's birthday and she even bought him a pie on her! She went above and beyond!Highly recommend this tour and especially Wendy. She made the experience unforgettable.

On our Christmas break my wife and I had the pleasure of going on four Flavor Teller Tours, Barrio Bites, Mercado & More, Friday Night Eats, and Flavors of Mexico. Luis, Wendy, and Maaike our guides were excellent. It was great to visit places I would have never stumbled onto on my own and get a history lesson along the way. I love food and these tours were awesome. My favorite stop was during the Mercado and More tour where we ate at the Pino Suarez Market at El Tigre and had ceviche fish tostadas. I wound up going to El Tigre 4 more times.
