Join the guided tour of Bayonne, a city rich in history and charm. We’ll explore key landmarks where medieval heritage, Basque traditions, and historic moments come together.
We’ll begin at the Bayonne War Memorial, then head to Château Vieux, a Roman-origin fortress that has witnessed centuries of military history.
Next, we’ll visit Saint Mary’s Cathedral, known for its impressive Gothic architecture, stunning stained glass and its peaceful cloister. Afterward, we’ll stroll along Rue Port Neuf, the “chocolate street,” where Sephardic Jews introduced cacao in the 18th century.
We’ll visit Bayonne City Hall, a beautiful neoclassical building, and Saint Andrew's Church, a gem of neogothic design. From Saint-Esprit Bridge, take in views of the Bayonne Citadel, then continue to Château-Neuf, a medieval castle now housing a university. We will learn about local sports too.
The tour concludes at Les Halles Market, where you can sample local specialties, including the famous Basque cake.
