What makes this tour unique it that there are no crowds and we are not in bear stands. Viewing is from the boat only. Most often we are the only boat out there. Additionally, we do not book more than 8 guests on this adventure to ensure unobstructed views and a quiet setting for bears.
Upon departure, we travel 2 hours north of Campbell River into the heart of bear country through vast fjords with whimsical waterfalls for you to enjoy while your guide keeps a keen eye out for intertidal Black bears! Shortly thereafter, we head to the estuaries in search of Grizzly bears.
This is a spring bear tour and only books May & June when bears are emerging from hibernation and their spring foraging habits are predictable. They are not feeding on salmon this time of year.
Note: Departure times vary due to tides. If your departure time changes we will contact you prior to the trip. Please check for our messages the day before, or contact us if you are going out of service.

Another fantastic trip with Wild Waterways Adventures - this time with Jen. She piloted us through the channels with ease in the sturdy Zodiac, knowing just where to look for wildlife. Thanks to her knowledge and skills, we had beautiful extended viewing of a stunning, breaching, fin-slapping Humpback whale, an aggregation of Bald Eagles, Stellar sea lions resting, three Black Bears cruising the shoreline, and a pod of five Orca. The scenery was stunning, too, even on a rather grey day, and Jen shared her extensive knowledge of the area and the wildlife as we travelled. A short lunch and comfort stop on Stuart Island was a welcome mid-point. Our UK visitors were absolutely thrilled with the trip, and went home with fantastic memories and photos of thrilling wildlife encounters, while we enjoyed yet another wonderful day on the water with Wild Waterways. After several tours with them, we can recommend them very highly indeed. It is always a pleasure to go out with Wild Waterways, either to show our guests the wild beauty of coastal BC, or just as a special treat for ourselves. Well worth it.❤️

We were in Vancouver island for vacation and we wanted to get out and experience the Canadian wilderness so we decided to book the Wild Waterways Bear tour. Rueben was kind, funny and knowledgable. Educating us on the ecosystem including the local islands, as well as the wildlife we saw along the way. Unfortunately the bears were feeling shy and we only saw one, but Reuben got us close, while maintaining a respectful distance so we could observe for a while. In addition to this bear, we saw seals, the T-90 family of orcas, and tons of bald eagles. We also stopped and had lunch in a beautiful area where we saw a bald eagles nesting. You can tell that every aspect of this tour is planned with care, and it is a beautiful way to spend a day getting in touch with nature. We would absolutely recommend this company and this experience!

The tour was amazing. We saw black bears, humpback whales and a pod of orca. We also so lots of seal and seal lions. The estuary was one of the most beautiful places i have ever seen. Rueben was our tour guide and as usual he was great. He is a very knowledgeable young man and always makes our trips so much fun.

A group of 8 of us (mostly seniors) booked this private tour. Reuben was a wonderful tour guide, he was attentive to our needs and to making sure we were doing ok. The tour was lovely, we were glad of the thermal suits otherwise we would have been pretty cold but even though it rained a bit we were ok. We saw three black bears in different locations, a family of orcas and two humpback whales frolicking in the water. Lunch was some nice fresh sandwiches and other goodies, and Reuben even managed to produce hot chocolate to drink. I would certainly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see the wild part of Vancouver seas. The scenery was stunningly beautiful and the experience was completely non-commercial. What a great trip.
