Troll Museum Bergen
Welcome to the Troll Museum in Bergen - the largest museum in Norway dedicated entirely to trolls and fairy tales. Centrally located in Bergen city, we aim to bring you closer to the magic of Norwegian folk beliefs and the creatures that populate them. Our museum is a unique blend of detailed handmade art, traditional storytelling, and modern digital technologies. The exhibits incorporate augmented reality features that superimpose moving elements and sound on the art you can see. In addition, the museum is equipped with immersive technologies and interactive elements, all of which expand on the physical exhibit and bring you further into the world of fairy tales. This translates into a unique museum experience where you can dip your toes into Norwegian folklore and discover how the idea of trolls has changed over time. The museum also has a number of board games and creativity zones where you can have some fun, as well as a small library stocked with books of fairy tales.

Troll culture at its finest! We discovered this museum when we walked past it half a block from our Airbnb on a wet, blustery day in Bergen and decided to go in for a look. If you’ve traveled in Norway, you know trolls are an important and well-loved feature of the country’s folklore and mythology. The colorful Troll Museum in Bergen is full of exhibits delightfully constructed and designed to enchant both children and adults alike. There are plenty of interactive features, dioramas, miniatures, digital screens, and a playroom for kids. My favorite was the living room with a giant digital troll peering in the windows! The museum gives a great deal of comprehensive information about many Norwegian artists including fairy tale illustrator Theodor Kittelsen. As a side note, it was exciting to read about him here, then later travel to Oslo and view his 1881 original painting of “The Sea Monster” in the National Museum. Care has been taken to present well-made exhibits, and it shows. I would recommend this museum to anyone visiting Bergen, with or without kids, and even on a sunny day! Tip: they sell the best troll postcards (including Theodor Kittelsen Sea Monsters) we saw anywhere in Bergen. Or Norway! Our grands loved them. Bergen Tips: Bergen is a beautiful and charming Norwegian city well worth more time than just a ferry or cruise ship stop. Hotels and Airbnbs are readily available close to the town center, Bryggen. If staying in town, everything (mostly) is walkable and you will not need a rental car. Having said that, on a previous trip to Norway we did have a rental car and were able to experience much more of the country. Head outside the city center or ask locals for advice on restaurants-those close to the wharf are expensive tourist traps. Except for our favorite hotdog stand!

A fun and interactive walk thru at your own pace museum. They also have several picture spots where they put a viking helmet or a troll on your face makes for some fun pictures.

What a fantastic, enchanting, and truly magical experience! The Troll Museum in Bergen is wonderfully interactive, with beautifully designed displays, engaging stories, and fascinating information that draws you in from start to finish. The creativity and artistry behind the trolls themselves is outstanding — clearly crafted with passion, imagination, and incredible skill. The staff add to the experience, making it welcoming and immersive for visitors of all ages. This is one of those rare attractions that delights both young and old alike. Highly recommended — a must-visit when in Bergen.

It was perfect for our family, we have kids in between the ages of 2-8 years… and it was perfect! They loved the “hunting” for clues and all the interactive activities

A little disappointing. Dear for what it is, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. Even my children stayed a little hungry.

Brilliant, interactive, investing for all ages! So much fun, especially on a rainy day in Bergen. So pleased we found this place!! Children spent ages designing trolls that came alive in an animation, playing traditional Norwegian games and creating family of troll photographs. Adults enjoyed the history and storytelling just as much.
