Excellent opportunity to encounter many Costa Rican birds

5.00The 2 of us enjoyed a wonderful birdwatching experience with Jairo. He worked hard to make sure we saw as many birds and other creatures that inhabited this wonderful spot so close to the town. We have many wonderful pictures that he helped us take with his scope. He was very attentive to us seniors. We were impressed with his knowledge and familiarity with the birds and their sounds. Very easy activity level. Highly recommend this birdwatching tour. 5 stars.

5.00I cannot speak highly enough about this experience. For the price we paid, it doesn't get much better than this. First and foremost - if you can request a specific guide, absolutely ask for Mau. My partner and I are avid birders who are very passionate and Mau was the perfect fit for us. Before we even started the tour in the parking lot, we spotted a 'lifer' bird for Mau and his excitement was courageous. He was literally dancing around with excitement and we knew right there and then we were in for a great experience. Most tours like this are estimated at about 2 hours in length - this one was a little over 4 hours! Mau was an extremely knowledgeable guide who knew not only just the birds, but pretty much everything else about the natural history of the area. Along the hike, he took great photos and sent them to us afterwards. The guide ended with a delicious breakfast and transportation to and from our hotel. We experienced pouring rain for the second half of our hike. On your way back, a tractor comes and picks you up and takes you to the endpoint. At about the halfway point of our return, the tractor had to stop for about 10mins to pick up other tour groups. Instead of waiting in the tractor with us, Mau hopped out, in the pouring rain, to try to find more things for us along the road. We went with him and found a sloth and a few more birds that were new for the day. Mau is knowledgeable, funny, and professional. Easily one of the best tour guides I will ever have. If you are passionate about birds (and nature for that matter!) absolutely book this tour.

It is such a joy when walking with her while she is sharing in her excitement, knowledge, and ability of finding things you would have never seen. Best guide/naturalist experience I've experienced in Costa Rica!
