We start with a short drive to a village pond where you can spot Lesser Whistling-Ducks, Egrets, Herons, Moorhens, and more. On the way, we'll stop at a paddy field to see Lapwings, Kingfishers, Sparrows, and Bitterns. Then, we head to Langkawi's highest peak to observe Great Hornbills, Wreathed Hornbills, and other rainforest birds, with the Great Hornbill being the largest bird in Langkawi. Afterward, we return to the hotel.

I did the evening half-day bird watching tour for 56 euros, with 5 other people and really enjoyed it. Although it was very hot, which made it harder to see more birds, our guide, Jien, was truly amazing and despite the heat delivered a good birding experience, I saw 29 species of birds, the best ones being the White Throated Kingfisher, Collared Kingfisher, Chinese Pond Heron, Striated Heron, Great Hornbill and Oriental Pied Hornbill. The tour is well designed with 3 efficient different locations and our guide Jien is very friendly and knowledgeable about the different calls and birds. I would personally add more walking to the tour, but I understand that not everyone would agree with that. Would definitely recommend, regardless of birdwatching level, but I think the morning tour is better because it should be less hot and more bird activity.

Pick up right from the hotel and a nice early start. First stop was at a harbour and we saw a huge amount of bird life but also other wildlife including a huge monitor lizard. Another stop on gunang raya and we experienced a lit of great hornbill sightings which was a highlightfor sure. Our guide was very knowledgeable and could spot the bird life with a great deal of skill. Taught us so much and made sure that we could spot the birds she saw. Absolutely recommend this tour for bird and nature lovers alike.

I took the half day bird tour - I was lucky to be the only one on the tour so had a guide and driver to myself. Jien was the guide - he combined his studies in ecology/conservation with his local knowledge to provide a great tour. We visited two sites and saw at least 35 bird species, with a bonus sighting of a family of otters. Highlights were the hornbills and kingfishers, along with crested serpent eagle. Can’t wait to have a look at my photos. Thanks Jien for a fantastic introduction to the birds of Langkawi.

Love the experience with Junglewalla! Jien was our guide of the day, he has been really professional and knowledgeable! Even our Driver Din has been great and helpful. The whole experience was lovely, and the whole birding spotting/ shooting process was done at our own pace , we don’t feel being rushed. Would definitely engaged them again if I come back to Langkawi!

The bird tour was excellent!! We were taken around to different locations to spot different birds and got to see so many; the highlights for me being the great hornbill, yellow bittern, brown winged kingfisher, black naped oriole and sunbirds :) Jien was excellent at both identifying the birds (sight and sound) and pointing them out.
Excellent way to view multiple bird species on langkawi.

Excellent morning spent with our guide, Jien, on a birding tour of Langkawi. We visited a coastal area, the Gunung Raya area and a wetlands area, which showed us more than 30 species! We got the biggies too - brown winged kingfisher and the greater hornbill. Jien has an encyclopaedic knowledge of local birds and flora, plus eyes of a hawk! He was very helpful and informative in identifying birds and telling us about their behaviours. Very comfortable trip too, as we were transported from place to place in an air con car. Excellent morning.
70 species of bird in 16 hours

My 17 year old daughter and I did the 2 day birdwatching tour. Over the 4 sessions, we identified approximately 70 species of bird. Jien was our guide. He knew many species of bird and those that he was unsure of, he made sure that he took photos and looked them up to tell us the correct identification. He was also able to tell us the names of the monkeys and squirrels that we saw. The tour included being driven to a number of different locations. A lot of walking was required. We also spent a couple of hours in a boat amongst the mangroves. Most of the walking was amongst village or weedy areas. Being at the edge of vegetation types made it easier to see more birds. The weather meant that we postponed a session. JungleWalla was happy to accommodate this. Jien communicated with me prior to each session which was excellent. I am not sure that Langkawi has enough diversity of ecosystems to justify 16 hours of birdwatching, but maybe a serious birdwatcher would disagree with me. I am only an appreciator of nature as opposed to a fanatical birdwatcher.

Jien was an excellent guide. He was well versed in the local bird population and helped us to locate them. We saw 28 species in a variety of habitats. We traveled to a rice paddy, mountain, and fishing village. We were so happy to see different species of hornbills and kingfishers. Pre-trip communication was excellent.
