We offer scenic riding tours on the beautiful black sand beaches of Vík, South Iceland.
Our Black Beach Riding Tour is an easy-going one hour ride perfectly suited for beginners and people who don’t go horse riding often, but we welcome riders of all abilities. Our horses are friendly and sure-footed, perfect to enjoy the wild Icelandic terrain. In the summer there is a chance to spot puffins flying above us, and in winter the ever-changing weather highlights the rugged beauty of the landscape.
The tours are mostly at walking speed, but for those who are capable there is the chance to try some tölt, the special gait of the Icelandic horse.
Please note we have a weight limit of 100kg / 220lb, and riders must be aged 10+. We are committed to the welfare of our horses and reserve the right to ask riders to step on a scale. We ask you to arrive at the stable 15 minutes before departure.

This was a magical experience! Our group got to spend time with these beautiful animals along the black sand beach and got some great photos. Make sure to bundle up if it's windy! The animals were extremely well behaved and all had their own personalities, and you can tell the tour guides care about them very much, too. We first booked for our group of 5, but I'm 6'3" and weigh 225 lbs, so I was too heavy for the smaller Icelandic horses. (This was actually totally okay with me, because I've been on tours in other countries where the animals are mistreated, so I was happy to see they cared VERY much about the horses here.)

Our guide Yohanna was amazing. She was so informative and patient. The horses are very calm and fluffy! A must try for your Vik stay.

We did this in the winter with no problems. Dressed appropriately, we were not cold. The horses are gentle. We would recommend if you want to see black sand beaches from a different perspective and enjoy a horse ride.

If you have owned or ridden horse often, as we have, it was boring. We didn’t get to ride like the pics. There were a few moments we were “allowed” to trot. We had to ride single file. I gave it a three because I loved the horses.

A magnificent discovery, both of horse riding from Iceland and the beaches of Vick. Net communication with staff, used to horses

It was a wonderful experience. You can see how much the horses are cared for and how well they maintain the stable. The guides aim to give you a safe and memorable experience. I would definitely recommend.

Sadly our actual ride was cancelled at the last minute due to high winds on the black sand beach. Safety of the horses and riders is the primary concern of the stable. However, we did get to walk around and talk to and pet the horses. They are cute and beautiful at the same time. We will definitely come back to Iceland and try again.

This small and family-run stable was absolutely adorable! My group was small and intimate and I felt comfortable having conversations with the two tour guides. It was almost like a private tour! The horses were very friendly and much smaller than any I have ever seen. I appreciated the route we went on, and even was able to trot with the horse- something I have never done before! A super fun experience you must try when you are in Iceland!

We were blessed with perfect weather and great guides to take us on the beautiful black sand beach. The ride is one hour long. The horses are funny and friendly and the tour guides were engaging along the entire ride. Definitely one of the best highlights of our trip.
