We didn't actually go on this boat trip. We were scheduled prior to arriving at Hotel Rio Lagartos, where we stayed the night before our tour was scheduled. We asked the gals at the reception desk about when and where the tour left the next day and they had no idea what we were talking about and knew nothing about tours that included food at the hotel. We walked a block away and met with Diego of Rio Lagartos Adventures, the top rated and most experienced guide service in Rio Lagartos whe had also never heard of this guided tour service. He did find it online and it was rated 21st of 21 options and had only 14 reviews. Not knowing if what we had booked was legit we booked with him for the following day. That morning a different receptionist at the hotel desk said yes they do have tours but we were not on the list despite having paid for it a week prior. We have requested a refund from trip advisor and had an excellent tour with Diego's daughter, Andrea. We saw more than a dozen species of birds and both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. She was very knowledgeable about each animal we and was able to describe their migratory and nesting patterns and behaviors.

The tour advertised visiting Las Coloradas and being taking for a Mayan mud peeling and swim. All we got was a tour of the river, not the Coloradas (which you can only see by driving to it as we lesrned afterwards) or the peeling despite it being advertised. We complained about it but the manager refused to speak to us personally (he hid in the office) or give even one cent in refund despite having paid 70 euros each. The issue is that the tour is advertised in a way which is not actually what happens. When booking on tripadvisor it doesnt tell you when the tour actually is, so we contacted the hotel offering it. We were told the morning is the best time for a trip, but the guide actually said it depends on the tide as a high tide means the wildlife moves into the mangroves and lagoons which boats can't access. For us, sunset would have been much better, according to the guide himself. My advice is to book a tour elsewhere. Advice for the hotel is to update websites you advertise on and not promise anything you do not deliver. In addition, have better communication between yourselves, the guide, and customers so everyone knows what is supposed to happen.

Our boat captain worked hard to get us good views of flamingos. He poled the boat through the water too shallow for an outboard motor. Our boat trip was 3 hrs and the fresh fish lunch after on a covered table on the shore was very good.

I would recommend this trip to anyone. If you are in the rental car you can easily park it at the Hotel Rio Lagartos. During our boat trip we encountered several crocodiles, flamingos and pelicans! Our tour gide took all the time for questions and at the end of the tour took us to a beautiful stretch of beach where we could swim. All in all we had a successful morning which we ended with an otherwise delicious breakfast / lunch at the hotel!!

The excursion was amazing, we could see flamingos, birds and crocodiles. We left at 7am, perfect schedule: we were one of the few boats. A very important point for us: respect for animals, the boat never gets too close to not disturb the ecosystem. The guide is passionate, it is a real pleasure. We recommend 200%, even for me who was afraid of water. The meal at the end of the visit and the attentions of the staff are more than pleasant: everything was perfect. Thank you very much for this memorable memory
