Guided by a professional calligraphy instructor, you’ll use handmade brushes from Kumano, Hiroshima — Japan’s top brush-making town — and enjoy a calm, creative moment to express yourself.
Write your own calligraphy on a fan or shikishi and take home a unique souvenir.
The workshop is held at “Takumi,” a 50-year-old folk craft shop.
One wall is beautifully decorated with ukiyo-e prints, creating an artistic atmosphere.
“Takumi” is also known as Hiroshima’s leading craft shop, offering traditional items from across Japan.

5.00Ryosei is a wonderful calligraphy artist and instructor. He provided lots of support and instruction on the brush strokes. The class felt fun and relaxed. This a fantastic activity to do to lighten your spirit. I’d highly recommend it!

5.00Sensei Ryosei taught us the foundational brush strokes of traditional Japanese calligraphy. After a reasonable amount of practice we were let loose to create our selected kanji, in my case Wa, on a card (I choose yellow). My effort was a reasonable start but I will certainly need a lot more practice! Navigation hint: Find Ryosei on 5-F in the Sunmall.
