This tour has an 8:45 AM start, but the van is actually parked a few blocks from the meeting point at the Centro park, necessitating a short walk to the vehicle. By the time everyone was loaded in the van and ready to depart, it was about 9:00 AM. 30 minutes to cross San Cristobal in the traffic, and then approximately two hours to the starting point of El Sumarido and the boat ride down the canyon. The driving route takes you from San Cristobal to Tuxtla Gutierrez, then north through and over a mountain pass to the lake. Note: If doing this tour on a Tuesday, the miradores are closed, and therefore are not included in the tour that day. The boat ride takes about two hours, terminating at the small town of Chiapa de Corzo. Multiple stops along the way where the boat captain provides historical information, points out interesting features of the canyon, or provides opportunity for guests to observe wildlife. On our boat ride we saw herons, cormorants, vultures, spider monkeys, and crocodiles. Some reviews about this tour make complaints about the small town of Chiapas de Corzo. After the boat ride, guests are given approximately one hour to wander the town, grab a drink or lunch, and browse the vendor stalls. It is one of the oldest Spanish towns in Mexico, founded in 1528. An interesting town central square with a unique fountain and clock tower, both constructed of brick. It’s a dusty little town, and may not appeal to some, but for the hour spent there I found it worthwhile to chill out and enjoy the laid back atmosphere. The drive back to San Cristobal takes approximately one hour, depending upon traffic. Note: Bring cash and small coins for snack vendors, banos, and for gratuities to the boat Captain/guide/driver. Also sunscreen for the boat ride, as the sun can be very hot. A light jacket or windbreaker might also be advisable, as some people found it chilly on the boat. A big thank you to our guide Jorge, driver Manuel, and boat Captain Alfredo.

Mindblowing experience. Really friendly tour guides. Altough i booked a tour in spanish (because i found nothing in english) the guide saw that many people of the group couldn't speak spanish so she did the tour in english and was very kind and easy going.

Perfect experience to explore alot in a day but without any stress. I wasn’t really aware of the need to bring a swimsuit , but didn’t want to swim anyway in the pools , the water was very cold

Sumidero Canyon is an absolute must-see when visiting Chiapas. Our day began at 8:45 a.m. in the central square of San Cristóbal, where we gathered before setting off on our adventure. We made a quick stop for restrooms and then visited two breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the canyon—one even had a small restaurant—before winding our way down to the port to board our boat. Our captain was incredibly knowledgeable about the canyon, the national park, and the Grijalva River that runs through it. He had a remarkable eye for wildlife, spotting spider monkeys and crocodiles along the way, and he patiently gave everyone time to take photos and ask questions. After a scenic and informative two-hour journey through the canyon, we arrived in Chiapa de Corzo, where we enjoyed a late lunch and explored the local market before heading back to San Cristóbal, returning around 5:00 p.m. Both our guide and driver were fantastic. Although the tour was originally intended to be in Spanish, most of the group spoke English, and our guide did an excellent job sharing everything in both languages—no small feat. I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience and this company!

They did not take us to the viewpoints and lasted 2 hours less the tour than contracted, apparently there was demonstration and so it did not happen, I would have liked to have been advised to schedule something else or to have given us more time in roe deer. More communication was lacking.
