Come with us and get to know Caral, which is the oldest manifestation of civilization in Peru and in the American continent due to its 5000 years old. It is made up of 32 monumental buildings, integrated into a complex system of settlements that show a strong religious ideology, among which are ceremonial buildings, residential sectors for people of different social ranks, a set of smaller temples and production workshops. Caral led a system of settlements that brought together 24 similar sites, although smaller, located in the Supe Valley.
It expresses the complexity and development of a model of early sociopolitical and economic organization during the Late Archaic Period (5000-3800 Bc) independently originated by the Andean societies that inhabited this small fertile valley on the Peruvian central coast.

Zona Arqueologica Caral
The Sacred City of Caral is located in the Supe valley, province of Barranca, 182 km north of Lima, in the north-central area of Peru. Because of its size and its architectural complexity, this is the most outstanding urban settlement of all that have been identified on the American continent from 3000 to 2000 B.C. Caral extends over 66 hectares, and consists of a nucleus and a peripheral area. The former boasts monumental architectural structures, four kinds of distinctive residential complexes, residences of the elite, two sunken circular plazas and spaces for mass public assemblies. The area in the periphery has many housing units distributed rather like an archipelago, with islands of dwellings grouped the length of the terrace adjacent to the valley.
Lima
After picking you up it is going to take 3 1/2 hours approximately to get to Caral where we are going to do all the activities, and for being back to Lima to drop you off in your hotel is going to be another 3 1/2 hours.

We really enjoyed visting Caral and experiencing the oldest known city of South America by being there in person and able to soak up the energy and atmosphere of this sacred site. Ronald was a great tour guide and provided us with lots of information both during the journey to and from Caral as well as at the site itself.

Thanks to Ronald and our driver Carlos (Indiana Jones) for an amazing day visiting this fascinating, ancient site. We were picked up on time, communications were excellent, we felt in safe hands, and we learned so much, not just about Caral but about climate, geography, history, culture, the people of Peru, including how to order water without dying of thirst first (very funny!) and it was thoroughly enjoyable all day, the journey and the entertaining conversations with Ronald. Enjoy Kingdom of Heaven, Ronald! We highly recommend this tour and we thank Ronald (and Carlos of course) for really taking excellent care of us all day and for making our time in Peru so memorable. Thank you.

For us, a visit to a site like Caral is most interesting if we leave with a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural significance of the site. This requires a top-notch guide. Ronald not only could place the site of Caral in historical context in terms of Peru but also in terms of global history (including recent discoveries that aren't discussed at the site). He could also provide global answers to questions ranging from why a lot of buildings in coastal Peru look unfinished to why the desert coast is so fertile provided there is a source of water. He clearly does ongoing research to make sure he is up-to-date.

Felipe and his team took all the stress away and took amazing care of us…from transport to and from the airport and train stations to tours through Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. They made recommendations for flights, hotels and restaurants. It was so easy to enjoy!! They’re at the top of their game knowing the history, culture, architecture, agriculture, and food. More than that, Filipe truly cared for us…two of our group got altitude sickness in Cusco and he wouldn’t leave the hotel until they were safely in their rooms with oxygen. The next day he arrived with medicine and lime chews to make sure the group wouldn’t get sick again. Felipe became part of our groups family by the end. We wanted to come back in a week to do it all over again!

This was an amazing tour and our tour guide, Felipe, was/is fantastic! His perfect English and vast knowledge of the ancient Caral civilization complimented tremendously the already fascinating time we spent traveling to/from the site. His expertise while at the site also helped us gain a deeper understanding of this ancient culture. There is still so much to learn about the original inhabitants of ancient Caral; however, the historical and cultural importance of this ancient civilization to the Americas cannot be overstated. Book your tour with Filipe if you want to ensure yourself a positive and worthwhile experience.
