We ventured into the mountains with our guide Joshua whom we met the day prior on another tour. Joshua was an excellent tour guide, knowledgeable and friendly. We felt like we were hanging out with a friend for the day. This tour was pretty special I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was so incredible to spend time on a family home and see how they farmed the land and utilized natural resources to support their everyday life and health. The day started with a 2 1/2 drive to the farm which is in the mountains of Medellin. The drive was very scenic as we winded our ways through the mountains. Upon arrival we were met with the owner/farmer (unfortunately I have forgotten his name) he immediately showed us some local plants and talked about their uses. We then met his family his wife cooked us breakfast and we drank a delicious cup of homemade hot chocolate. Our host then proceeded to explain the entire process of chocolate making from start to finish encouraging us to taste fruits and things along the way. We got to make a chocolate bar very delicious and also toured his land and learned about the many uses of plants on his property. The views were spectacular. One important tip best to wear long sleeves and pants and bring your bug spray for the mosquitos. We were grateful that Joshua told us this before we went. We finished the tour with a trip to a nearby waterfall where we used some of the chocolate as a natural scrub. This was a locals only location and they each enjoyed using the chocolate as a natural body scrub. The host’s wife then made us a delicious lunch wrapped in a plantain leaf. We enjoyed it on our way back to our hotel. If you are a nature lover and naturalist this is the tour for you!

This tour was amazing!! Joshua our guide was exceptional. Not only just about chocolate, but learned about many different plants, herbs, and got to be with nature outside of the busy city. Very nice to see people still connected with plants. The chocolate was wonderful and the breakfast and lunch provided was very tasty, and the salsa was very delicious.

The Cacao-Chocolate tour was quite an experience. The ride up into the mountain took about 1.5 hours from Medellin. It’s family owned, they were so nice & inviting. We learned all about how chocolate is made and got to make some of our own! They served fresh fruits & breads for breakfast & a home made meal in banana leaves for lunch! The waterfall part & cacao body exfoliating was super nice! Leaves your body smooth & glowing! Water was a bit cold but rejuvenating, bring water shoes for the slippery rocks!
