What To Expect
We specialise in servicing the 42km Cromwell to Clyde Lake Dunstan Trail with return shuttle. Not to mention an experience you won't forget! The Lake Dunstan Trail links the townships of Cromwell and Clyde which is spectacular and offers cyclists an easy (14km's grade 1-2) from our shop at the Cromwell Heritage Precinct to Cornish Point, then from Cornish Point via the Cromwell Gorge to Clyde (28km's grade 2 with parts of grade 3, with big switch-back climbs and narrow sections) for this reason we highly recommend that you are an experienced cyclist for safety reasons. The unique trail follows Lake Dunstan and passes vineyards and rugged mountains before heading into the dramatic Cromwell Gorge. Impressive engineering has made the trail possible by bolting cantilever platforms onto sheer rock faces that are too steep to carve a pathway. There's even a coffee boat and burger boat for refreshments on the way. Our Bike Hire Fleet includes our own custom-built high spec LLEVANT Hardtail E-Mountain Bikes, featuring the powerful but intuitive Shimano E8000 E-Mountain bike system with Shimano 11 speed gears, Rockshox 120mm Travel Front Fork and Dropper Seat Posts to make your Lake Dunstan Trail ride a lot more enjoyable, safer and comfortable. We also have the awesome Trek Roscoe 7 mountain bikes these make for a smoother, easier ride on the trail with their 27+ wheels and 2.8 tyres. All bikes hired include helmets, rear carrier pannier bags with one person in each group receiving an emergency kit with spare tube, multi tool, tyre levers, quick link chain tool, new chain and first aid kit.

5.00We had a last minute booking on the Lake Dunstan trail and from the off the whole experience was amazing! Really great communication from Rod, he's incredibly knowledgeable and knows the trail inside and out. He has a fantastic business, the bikes are really good, really reliable and bespoke built. When visiting Cromwell I'd thoroughly recommend a visit! The trail itself is well maintained with plenty of signage, toilets and some lovely places to stop! The Carrick winery at the 8km mark is a perfect stop off. I'd recommend this to anyone visiting the region as the historic sections of Cromwell and Clyde are both really pretty. As said before Rod is brilliant, he's a very friendly, approachable guy and in my opinion no one is better to hire from!

5.00We hired 2 non-electric bikes for the day and couldn’t recommend CHP bike rentals more highly. The bikes were in great condition, padded seats, panniers to hold our gear, emergency and first aid kit. Rod has thought of everything! The Lake Dunstan cycle way is a great way to ride amongst the mountains for an unforgettable experience, made all the better and easier with CHP bikes. CHP bikes is located in the heritage precinct in Cromwell, a beautiful 1 hour drive from Queenstown through yet more beautiful mountains. Thanks Rod.

5.00Really great! bikes were very good, pick up from Clyde as well. Leaving from Cromwell was very efficient (other bike rentals are from Clyde and start with a shuttle, which means that these bikers start later on the day (so that it is very quiet when biking, because with CHP you leave more early/direct). We rated 5 stars!!

5.00Tom and I hired bikes from Rod at CHP bike rentals Cromwell to cycle the Dunstan Trail from Cromwell to Clyde. Rod was very personable and outstanding with his communication of the hiring process and also detailed description of the track. The bikes were superb, in great order and being purpose built were perfect for the track. Rod's training of how to use the bikes was very clear. The track itself was magnificent and we would highly recommend Rod and CHP Rentals to anyone considering cycling the Dunstan or any other trail from Cromwell. Carol

5.00We (5 of us ) were delighted that we chose Rod and CHP for our Lake Dunstan Trail experience. 3 of us used Rod’s electric bikes - which were by far the best we’ve ever ridden - and we were lucky to ride on a spectacular autumnal day with hardly anyone else on the trail. Rod was very responsive in his email communication beforehand and made sure we knew exactly what to expect from the trail. We rode from Cromwell to Clyde with the sun and wind at our backs and stopped for delicious pizza and coffee at Carrick Vineyard. We were a bit late getting to Clyde (too many photo stops) but Rod was there waiting for us, and encouraged us to take our time and have a cup of tea before taking us back. We all had such a fun day riding in superb scenery on such an extraordinary bike trail, and would like to thank Rod for looking after us so well! He definitely goes the extra mile for his customers.
