Cawdor Castle
As you step inside these ancient walls, you’ll be guided on an enchanting audio journey through the castle’s long and storied past, which reaches back to at least 1454. Each room whispers of centuries gone by — from the elegance of the 16th-century portrait gallery in the drawing room, to the warmth and richness of 17th-century Flemish tapestries adorning a bedroom once fit for nobility. Fine art, antique treasures, and the tales they carry await you at every turn, inviting you to linger a little longer. After the tour, you’ll have time to explore the varied gardens at your own pace. There are also two gift shops and a café on-site. For WOW guests, the café offers a convenient packed or boxed lunch option, which we recommend if you’d like something to take away for later in the day. Entrance and an audio guide to Cawdor Castle is included in the tour price.
Culloden Battlefield
Our next stop is at Culloden Battlefield, one of the most important battlefields in the UK. Here, your guide will bring the landscape to life on a 30-minute walking tour, as he enthralls you with the story of the last pitched battle on British soil; the Jacobite uprising of 1746. As you stand upon the windswept moor, it’s easy to imagine the bravery, sacrifice, and heartbreak that unfolded here, with echoes of the past lingering in the stillness. The haunting beauty of the landscape, combined with its tragic history, creates a deeply moving experience that will stay with you long after you leave.

Murdoch Beddie was a fabulous tour guide. Folks in our group that usually fall asleep on bus tours stayed awake all day! Very knowledgeable about history and a terrific storyteller. This tour has a good mix of stops and time at each location compared to others we have done where you get 5 minutes at a view point to take a picture and hop back on the bus. Really enjoyed it and was the best tour of all that we had on this cruise.

Ross was our guide and driver, excellent stories and history between stops. He also shared local music on longer drives. We covered lots of Scottland in a very nice streched Sprinter bus. Saw Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle, Clava Cairns and Inverness. The Castle tour was my favoirite, folowed by walking around Iverness. We will be back! Ask to tour with Ross, you wont be dissappointed.

If you are docking in Invergordon and want to truly experience the soul of the Highlands, look no further than WOW Scotland. Our recent tour with them was nothing short of fabulous. We visited an incredible array of sites, including: Cawdor Castle: Stunning architecture and history. Clava Cairns: A hauntingly beautiful step back in time. Culloden Battlefield: A deeply moving and evocative experience. Loch Ness: Breathtaking views (even if Nessie stayed hidden today!). What truly set this tour apart was the personal touch. The owners, Gordon and Kay, provided exceptional communication from the moment we booked, keeping us updated every step of the way. Our guide, Murdock, was simply amazing—we were completely captivated by his expert storytelling. The excursion felt intimate and high-end; rather than a massive, impersonal bus, we traveled in a very nice, comfortable vehicle. We cannot recommend WOW Scotland highly enough for cruisers looking for a world-class experience!

This tour is a full eight hours and it allowed us to see everything we wanted, Culloden, Loch Ness, the “hairy coos”, and short tours of Inverness and Invergordon. The admission to Cawdor Castle is included and is very lovely. Our tour guide, Murdoch, is a wonderful storyteller. He was informative and highly entertaining. We strongly recommend this tour and Murdoch. You’ll love his stories!

We recently took the Classic Highland Shore tour offered by WOW Scotland. A WOW Scotland representative met us at the cruise terminal. We were directed to a comfortable mid sized tour bus. The tour took us to many of the Scottish Highland highlights. We visited Cawdor Castle, the Clava Cairns, Culloden Battlefield, Loch Ness and ended with some free time in Inverness. Our guide Andrew gave us information throughout the day highlighting relevant historical information and pointing out various items of interest. Andrew was very interactive with our group and told many stories along the way. We arrived back at the cruise ship in plenty of time. This was a great day visiting the sites in the Scottish Highlands. Well done, WOW Scotland!

We did the Classic Highlands Tour from the Invergordon cruise port with Wow Scotland and it was an incredible, tightly packed day full of history, views, and learning. Our guide Andrew (in his kilt!) was lively and enthusiastic from start to finish, and he made the whole experience feel fun and effortless. At each stop he gave a clear, awesome overview of what we were seeing, and his stories on the bus ride added more fun along the way. Cawdor Castle was a highlight. It was their first day for the season and it was fascinating to see hear how it’s still a living residence during winter and see the rooms fully furnished. Clava Cairns was amazing to see and reminded me of the Stonehenge. Visiting Culloden Battlefield was eye-opening and a powerful reminder of the impact of wars to generations of people. We also made it to Loch Ness and got time in Inverness, which rounded out the day perfectly. Even though our cruise ship docked late, Wow Scotland managed the timing really well and everything ran smoothly without feeling rushed. My only complaint is the bus itself. The seats and middle aisle were pretty tight. The top compartment for storing things was not secure and there were times when items (jackets and a walking stick) fell down with no warning and hit the person sitting right below it. There were also no USB/USB-C outlets to charge phones during such a full day.

We had an excellent day from Invergordon. It was filled with diverse tours. I especially want to thank our guide Andrew who kept us in suspense all day with his stories. Among other things, this gave a whole new dimension to our visits to the Culloden battlefield and the prehistoric Clava cairns site. By the way, he should make audiobooks, because he has such a beautiful voice. I highly recommend a visit with them.
