This is a tour that will suit everyone from beginner to the absolute birding pro who probably makes eBird lists in their sleep, as there is such a huge variety of amazing birds out there in Corcovado and surroundings. Walter has a wealth of knowledge about the local species and knows exactly where and how to spot them. We got lucky and saw a few really rare and/or elusive species which I will never forget. Lunch at a local eco farm was also delicious. I highly, highly recommend booking any of their tours, including of course Los Planes, which will take you into the primary forest in an area that is barely walked by any other tourists.

Highly recommended for any birders visiting Drake Bay! Walter is knowledgeable and knows everyone. Not only was the birding great at Los Planes, we also visited a local property for an outstanding lunch afterward, one of the best meals of our trip.

We had two fantastic days with Walter as our guide, exploring on foot the first day (Los Planes) and by boat the second (Sierpe Wetlands). In fact, I have made this Tripadvisor account specifically to leave this review due to how wonderful these experiences were. Walter truly, deeply loves the natural world and is an encyclopedia of knowledge. His excitement as we identified different species of birds was absolutely infectious and there were many points during the day where all of us were giddy at the sights and sounds around us. Walter is willing and able to structure the tour to best fit his guests and took us to some less treaded, more wild areas which provided a great level of seclusion and tranquility. Spending four hours seeing no other humans, just wildlife, was exactly what we'd hoped for during our Costa Rica journey. For full blown bird nerds, or even if you're just bird-curious, I couldn't recommend Walter more highly.

We did three tours with Walter - San Pedrillo, Los Planes, and the night walk. Walter was an incredible birder and naturalist and had a deep understanding of rainforest ecology. He is passionate about birds and their conservation, and his excitement is contagious. Walter showed us many elusive endemics that we would not have seen on our own. We highly recommend the Los Planes tour, which includes a fantastic Costa Rican lunch at the end!

We birded with Walter in and around Drake Bay, and then headed up to Los Planes in Corcovado National Park. Walter is simply one of the best birding guides we have ever had. Very knowledgeable. Enthusiastic. A true nature lover and conservation advocate. He has a quick eye and a sharp ear. And well, this is important....he has a great personality, and is just fun to bird with! After birding at Los Planes (highly recommend this trip!), Walter took us to a local farm for an unforgettable homemade lunch (after searching for, and finding, the Charming Hummingbird!) We highly recommend choosing Walter as your birding guide if you are planning to be in the area! Rick and Ami Bergstrom

When looking for tour options for birdwatching during our November stay in Drake Bay, we were delighted to find that Walter has established Drake Bay Birdwatching. We had met Walter several years back when he guided us through both the Mangroves and Corcovado National Park while we were staying in Osa and he was a free-lance guide.. We were impressed at that time with Walter's knowledge of wildlife and his passion for what he was doing. We were delighted to catch up with him again! This time around, Walter guided us around Drake Bay and Los Planes, along rural roads and open areas bordering on Corcovado National Park. As before, his enthusiam was contagious, and we enjoyed his stories on local culture and his personal birding experiences. Through his sharp eyes and trained ears, along with his HD spotting scope, he identified numerous species of birds, including many new species to us, most of whom we would never even seen without his expertise.. He was able to mimic the bird calls to attract them closer and shared information from his field guide on the various birds we saw.. Walter has an indepth understanding of the local flora and fauna and the importance of conservation.. He knows all the hotspots for birding throughout Costa Rica and would be keen to suggest alternative itineraries to achieve your specific goals. He is a wildlife enthusiast, a true ambassdaor for ecotourism.

This tour exceeded our expectations. Walter is a wonderful guide, extremely knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the region, birds, and other animals. This trip is for all levels of birders, beginners can learn a lot from him and experienced birders will find lots of new species. Lunch afterwards at a family farm was lovely. Highly recommended,

We were with Walter on a day trip in Corcovado National Park and had a wonderfully varied day that will stay with us for a long time. From Sierpe we took an exciting motorboat ride through the mangrove forests into the Pacific Ocean and the beach of Corcovado. We saw jumping dolphins and sea turtles playing lovemaking. Walter explained to us very vividly and passionately the animals and plants in the national park. We saw the red macaws, all four Costa Rican monkey species, an anteater and a crocodile. Walter speaks very good English and has answered all questions with a lot of patience and joy. After a delicious lunch we went back to Sierpe.
