Cotopaxi National Park

On the border of the province of Pichincha, there is the Cotopaxi National Park, an ecological reserve that combines the landscape of the Andean páramo, volcanic soil and the lagoon that emerge from the snow-capped mountains. Its main attraction is the volcano that bears its name which in Spanish means 'moon neck' given because of the conical shape of the crater. The elevation of the volcano is of 5,897 meters above sea level and is the second highest in the country. Visitors can discover different species of plants and animals like: wolves, rabbits, bears, condors, and among others that live in that territory. Visit The Interpretation Center: All information about the Cotopaxi National Park is available at the Interpretation Center, or better known as the Park Museum. The Center has showrooms, a souvenir shop and a coffee shop. It is located inside Mariscal Sucre Station (or Control Caspi entrance). Walk To The José Rivas Refuge (4864 Masl): Since the 70s, this refuge has been a welcoming place for professional mountaineers and amateurs coming to visit the Cotopaxi Volcano. Its name is in honor of the priest José Ribas who built it with the Mountaineering Club of San Gabriel High School. This place is located on the slopes of the volcano and an hour's walk from the parking lot.

An amazing day trip. This was so worth it. What a day, and Alejandro made it the best. The ride is def bouncy at certain points, but its desolate out there. The day was just amazing, and you really need to be prepared to go up the mountain, its pretty hard.

Excellent Tour to Cotopaxi, very nice views during the tour, although it is true we could not see the volcano cleared by the weather, when we walked to the shelter it snowed, a very nice experience. We want to thank especially Mr. Andrés, driver, and Vero, the guide who helped us in everything, with clear instructions and a lot of kindness.

I had a fantastic day with Vero and Andres! We had a great time exploring the Limpiopungo lagoon and hiking very slowly to Cotopaxi Refugio, even though the weather was quite mixed (including snow on the hike!). Lunch was excellent. Thank you for a great time at Cotopaxi!

It was really good, specially with our guide Pamela - she was full energy, fun and made me and my son to get to the refugee. Thanks a lot.

The visit to Cotopaxi was one of the crown jewels of our trip to Ecuador. The volcano itself is impressive and its beauty is breathtaking. What made this trip extra special was our guide Pam, whose energy and enthusiasm was only outmatched by her knowledge about the National Park and all the facts she shared about Quito and Ecuador. Chance made it that the day following the trip to Cotopaxi, we encountered her again in the Hop On - Hop off tour and was beyond excited because I got to benefit from her knowledge and enthusiasm again!

Pamela was an excellent guide. Of all the tours you have taken elsewhere in the world, your energy has undoubtedly been the most sweeping. She was very patient and I liked that she was going to the beat of everyone on the walk, without rushing, just cheering. I loved the view of the volcano, a stopover certainly necessary in Ecuador.
