Cotopaxi National Park
On the border of the province of Pichincha, there is the Cotopaxi National Park, an ecological reserve that combines the landscape of the Andean páramo, volcanic soil and the lagoon that emerge from the snow-capped mountains. Its main attraction is the volcano that bears its name which in Spanish means 'moon neck' given because of the conical shape of the crater. The elevation of the volcano is of 5,897 meters above sea level and is the second highest in the country. Visitors can discover different species of plants and animals like: wolves, rabbits, bears, condors, and among others that live in that territory. Visit The Interpretation Center: All information about the Cotopaxi National Park is available at the Interpretation Center, or better known as the Park Museum. The Center has showrooms, a souvenir shop and a coffee shop. It is located inside Mariscal Sucre Station (or Control Caspi entrance). Walk To The José Rivas Refuge (4864 Masl): Since the 70s, this refuge has been a welcoming place for professional mountaineers and amateurs coming to visit the Cotopaxi Volcano. Its name is in honor of the priest José Ribas who built it with the Mountaineering Club of San Gabriel High School. This place is located on the slopes of the volcano and an hour's walk from the parking lot.

A perfectly organized excursion with a very talented and very prudent guide (Jorge)! However, it should be known in advance that there is a stop on the way for both breakfast and lunch.

I had an exceptional experience on my Cotopaxi excursion, and a large part of that was thanks to our outstanding guide, Jorge, and our highly skilled driver, Carlos. Jorge exemplifies what a world class tour guide should be. From the very beginning, he created a welcoming and engaging atmosphere by taking the time to learn everyone’s names and personally connect with each guest. His ability to remember and address everyone individually made the experience feel thoughtful and personalized rather than transactional. Throughout the journey, he was incredibly informative, pointing out volcanoes, landscapes, and points of interest along the way while keeping us consistently engaged. What truly set Jorge apart was his genuine care for the group. As a solo traveler, I felt completely at ease thanks to his efforts to break the ice and foster connections among everyone on the bus. He struck the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth, ensuring both our safety and enjoyment at all times. His presence inspired confidence and trust, and he delivered an experience that went far beyond expectations. Carlos, our driver, was equally impressive. His driving skills are nothing short of exceptional. He navigated the terrain with remarkable precision and smoothness, making the journey comfortable and stress free from start to finish. His control of the vehicle, even on challenging roads, reflected a level of expertise that truly enhanced the overall experience. Together, Jorge and Carlos make an outstanding team. Their professionalism, coordination, and dedication to delivering a high quality experience did not go unnoticed. Thanks to them, my birthday trip to Cotopaxi was unforgettable, an experience I will cherish for years to come. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Dani and Maurice know how to make a tour great. Nothing was rushed and nothing was too slow. The time spent hiking came together for everyone. The food and info about Ecuador was right on. Would definitely recommend this tour for others.

Super organized tour to Cotopaxi volcano and lagoon. Josué explains everything perfectly and leaves no questions unanswered. Our group (6 people and also all fit) was then allowed to start the way up alone, which we quite liked and he also saw that we do not need help for it and he has to look at the others rather. From the base camp we are still with two others and Josué at 5000m. Great experience and thank you!

We went up to Ecuador to celebrate our daughter’s birthday and of course on such a special date you want everything to go very well and the truth climbing Cotopaxi was our daughter’s wish, and hand in hand with our spectacular guide Veronica could not be better, and I say it from the experience that as a guide I have, during the journey I manage very well the times and this I did in 2 languages Spanish and English which handles perfectly one; once we started the climb was very clear in the recommendations and how to climb without “dying” in the process I say so because we climbed to 4864 meters and that can be very hard!! Veronica thank you so much for everything if we come back we will come back with you.
