Abbaye Medievale De Lagrasse, Centre Culturel Les Arts De Lire

Lagrasse, named as one of the most beautiful villages of france. In the valley of the River Orbieu, Lagrasse sits in the foothills of the Pyrenees in a region renowned for its wine production in the surrounding hills, the Corbières. Lagrasse is an attractive village, with an Abbey – permission for its construction was given by Charlemagne in 783. The two highlights of the village are the Abbey and the bridges, although the narrow medieval streets of the village itself are also very attractive and the remains of the town walls can still be seen. Lunch in a restaurant in Lagrasse itself.

Abbaye De Fontfroide

In the begenning of the afternoon we depart for the Abbey of Fontfroide where you can explore at your leisure with an audio guide. One of the best preserved Cistercian monuments in France, Fontfroide Abbey was founded in 1093 on land given to some Benedictine monks by the Vicomte de Narbonne.

We visited the public area in the morning, the private area (held by the monks) of the abbey only opens at 15:00. Count 7 or 8€ for the entrance ticket, the tour is free. The place is nice to visit, there are only the walls, no furniture. We then visited the small town of LAGRASSE and enjoyed the many restaurants.

The best thing about our visit to Narbonne. Everything is super careful and beautiful. The person who sells you the tickets is charming and speaks perfect Spanish. The brochure they give you is perfect to follow the visit and the place breathes the peace and tranquility of yesteryear, the gardens invite you to walk. Beautiful

Thank you Olivia for a fantastic day out. We enjoyed the lovely village of Lagrasse and the abbey. We were overwhelmed with the beauty of Fontfroide Abbey. It is the best preserved abbey I have ever visited. Tresor Languedoc tours makes everything enjoyable and easy. Air conditioned car and Olivia was excellent with history / answering my questions.
