7 AM Departure from Kolkata10 AM- Bishnupur We step back to the 17th century and enter the world of the Malla Kingdom and its Terracotta temples. We visit a slew of temples dedicated to Lord Krishna, the patron god of the Malla Kingdom. Our guide will tell you the story of how a tyrannical Malla King converted to Gaudiya Vaishnavism and how that provided the impetus for terracotta art to flourish in the 16th and 17th-century in Bishnupur. Among other temples, we will also visit Rasmancha, the first temple constructed by the King Bir Hambir. It is a quaint pyramidal structure marked by huge, stepped masonry and a composite Chala type roof, designed as a stage.
We next head to visit weavers of the famous Baluchuri style silk sari. We will get to experience how the Saris are created on draw looms. It will be fascinating to see the intricate art of weaving ‘Ramayana’ scenes woven all over the saree border.

We had an excellent day with Anirban. The temples were impressive and worth the trip. Lunch was good, and other stops for chai and sari weaving added variety. Anirban added context. Definitely a nice way to spend a day out of the city.

Great experience, great guide and no rush. Anirban was very knowledgeable and explained us well about Kolkata and Bishnupur. It was a real delight and no jumping from one site to the other, just slowly and adapted to our pace.

Long drive. Great driver and Anirpur was a great guide. Might not be worth 4 hours drive each way for some but interesting people scenery along the way. Roads not great much of the way. 5Senses was very professional, efficient, responsive.

Bishnupur trip that I took yesterday was wonderful and an eye opening. Though the trip to the town was arduously long but it was worth it being given the opportunity to engross into the great Bengali past glory. I thoroughly enjoyed the cultural and educational tour. My tour guide, Mr Akbishek, was a great company and a knowledgeable mentor. He could relayed well to me on the history of Bishnupur and the various places of interest including the hand loom and pottery cottage industries. Not to mention, the driver who took us around was not only a careful driver but a joyful one as well. He talked non stop throughout the journey to keep our spirit up. Overall experience was great and beyond my expectations.

Our tour-guide, Bratati, was very polite, friendly and helpful. She explained everything in a lovely manner and took us to different places and gave us knowledge about Bengali/Indian culture, history, religion, and society. We had a lovely lunch with great Indian food. Despite the heavy rain, Bratati managed to show us everything and took well care of us. The contrast with our stay in Kolkata was huge, so it was lovely to see so many things in just one day. We surely recommend this trip!

This was a long day but an amazing one. Abhishek took us first to Bishnupuir where the temples made of terracotta were outstanding. We then also saw a weavers village where people were making silk sarees using hand looms. This was the highlight of the day. We also saw some beautiful pottery being done. Abhishek was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a fantastic day. Highly recommended.

The tour to Bishnupur with Abhishek was really wonderful! It was a very long drive due to traffic but interesting scenes of everyday life along way. Abhishek was very well informed about the history, architecture and iconography of the temple. We also visited the homes of 2 handloom Weavers who weave traditional silk saris with a wide variety of colors and motifs. I was given a fascinating demonstration and explanation of the process. Since I am A textile collector, I bought a lovely silk stole- no pressure to buy. I highly recommend this trip with Five Senses, especially the private tour, a great lunch included with Abhishek as your guide.

Five senses tours had organised a fantastic Raj walk for us earlier and so I decided to take their day trip to Bishnupur. What an incredible day. Abhijeet first took us to temples built on terracotta. Very beautiful and remarkable. Then we saw how weaving of silk Sarees happen. It was again a mesmerizing experience to see beautiful Saree being woven from just simple looms. Finally we also met some potters and it was a great time spent with their families. Very highly recommended.
