Chateau Yaldara
We’ll begin the day at the majestic Château Yaldara, one of the Barossa Valley’s most iconic and historic wineries. Established in 1947 by Hermann Thumm, a European winemaker who brought his old-world techniques to Australia, the château itself sits on the site of an original 19th-century flour mill, adding layers of charm and character to the estate. Famous for its award-winning Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, Château Yaldara blends rich winemaking traditions with stunning architecture. The name "Yaldara" is derived from the Aboriginal word meaning “sparkling,” a nod to the nearby North Para River and the natural beauty of the area. Guests will experience the award winning wines and estate’s grand sandstone buildings, manicured gardens, and riverside views—making it one of the most photographed destinations in the Barossa. You’ll also have time to explore the grounds with a self-guided tour of the estate, perfect for soaking in its history and capturing memorable photos.

The start of the day did not go well. We were asked to walk to another pick up point (be it close by) at the last minute, when we were told we would be picked up at our hotel. The bus was then 30 minutes late which caused us to worry, having to text the company to find out if we had missed the bus, even though we were there on time. The wine tasting itself was very good and enjoyable, if somewhat rushed at our second venue. The lunch was good but hardly gourmet and they had run out of the chicken choice by the time our driver sent in our order. Perhaps sending the order in at the first stop would solve this problem. Our driver was OK but we felt that the information giving about the area ect. did not come naturally to her and was somewhat disjointed. We did enjoy our day but for the price we paid it could have been better. Finally, don't be fooled into thinking you will get the $10 tasting fee back if you purchase wine.

It was a beautiful drive to get there. There was a great variety in the wineries, from old estatea, to modern. The expanse of the vinyards was breathtaking The special stops that we made were quaint Browns donut shop was a special treat as was the chocolate factory.

A fun day. Jerry was so funny. Only suggestion would be ditch the last wine tasting and make more time for the gin tasting.
