Chateau Yaldara

We’ll begin the day at the majestic Château Yaldara, one of the Barossa Valley’s most iconic and historic wineries. Established in 1947 by Hermann Thumm, a European winemaker who brought his old-world techniques to Australia, the château itself sits on the site of an original 19th-century flour mill, adding layers of charm and character to the estate. Famous for its award-winning Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, Château Yaldara blends rich winemaking traditions with stunning architecture. The name "Yaldara" is derived from the Aboriginal word meaning “sparkling,” a nod to the nearby North Para River and the natural beauty of the area. Guests will experience the award winning wines and estate’s grand sandstone buildings, manicured gardens, and riverside views—making it one of the most photographed destinations in the Barossa. You’ll also have time to explore the grounds with a self-guided tour of the estate, perfect for soaking in its history and capturing memorable photos.

While exploring the charming town of Tanunda, we recommend a special stop that locals rave about—Browns Barossa Donuts. This isn’t just any bakery stop; it’s a bite of pure indulgence, known for serving the best donuts in South Australia. Open only Wednesday to Saturday, Browns Barossa Donuts has earned a cult following for its handmade brioche donuts, crafted fresh each morning using locally sourced ingredients. From the moment you step inside, the sweet scent of caramel, chocolate, and fresh dough pulls you in. Flavours like Biscoff cheesecake, Nutella dream, and dulce de leche éclairs make this more than just a snack—it’s an experience. Perfectly timed into our itinerary, this stop gives you a taste of Tanunda’s delicious side and adds a bit of fun (and sugar!) to your day of wine, culture, and discovery. Don’t be surprised if you leave with a box of treats for the ride home—these donuts are too good to resist. (Purchases at your own cost)

What a great day enjoying ourselves in Barossa Valley! We had an incredible group of people which was amazing and so much fun. Each winery in the tour had its own story and lovely wines so I won’t go into too much detail. Lunch was superb! Our driver was great too, I think his name was Jo or Jay but regardless he was a gem! The chocolate factory was yummy and Maggie Beers farm shop was cool~ Be sure to grab a glass of wine here and sit on the deck!

Considering it is a small group and operator it is a lot of fun and the group dynamic was great. Have a good breakfast as tastings are very generous. Even though there are morning tea and lunch stops , I would suggest taking some snacks with you to soak up some the alcohol.
