Take a tour of Kyoto's famous Gion district and learn all about the mysterious geisha traditions of the area. Your local guide will tell you about the traditions from an insider perspective about Geisha culture. At the same time you'll explore Gion's beautiful streets, temples, shrines, and shops, for a comprehensive overview of historic Kyoto. The mysterious world of Geisha can seem exclusive and challenging to discover, but on my experience
・In the first half we will walk in Gion and discuss the living traditions, their lifestyle and history.
・In the second half we will meet an apprentice geisha, Maiko. First we will talk with and ask her questions. Also we will watch her dancing, having one of these, a cup of tea or lunch or dinner together.
*Picture and filming of Geisha is fine but not allowed to post it in public.

Ken was so passionate about the history of geisha and that we continue to be respectful of its beauty and sacrifice. What an awesome opportunity to walk the streets, hear the stories and to meet a Meiko and have her perform for us. I highly recommend this tour.

The Discover Geisha Arts: Gion Cultural Walk & Geisha Show was an incredible experience that offered a rare and insightful look into Kyoto’s rich traditions. Walking through the historic streets of Gion, guided by an expert who shared fascinating stories about the geisha (geiko) and maiko culture, truly brought the area to life. The highlight of the evening was the intimate geisha performance. Watching a maiko gracefully perform traditional dances and interact with guests was mesmerizing. It was a rare opportunity to see the beauty, elegance, and dedication behind this centuries-old art form. The Q&A session afterward was also a great way to learn more about their daily lives and training. The experience was well-organized, engaging, and deeply immersive. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a culture lover, or just looking for a unique experience in Kyoto, this tour is a must-do! Highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience the magic of Gion.

This was the best tour I’ve ever taken. My son and I took the Gion Cultural Walk and Geisha Show with Kenta as our guide. Kenta had a way of making history come to life as we walked the neighborhood, stopping at significant locations along the way. The information was foundational to help us understand the cultural significance of Geishas, or Geiko as they are called in Kyoto, and Maikos. The walk through the neighborhood also helped us understand the life of Geikos. The tour led us to a tea house where we enjoyed tea and meeting a beautiful Maiko. We shared a highly informative Q&A session before experiencing a gracefully beautiful dance by a Geiko apprentice. Considering there are only 500 Geishas in all of Japan, this was a rare opportunity to experience something very few people ever see. If you are in Kyoto, do not miss this fascinating Japanese treasure. Thank you Kenta from Ken’s Tour of Kyoto. The entire experience was unforgettable!!

This was an awesome experience. Kento was very knowledgeable and he did an excellent job of educating us on the life of a gui-ko. Lunch with the mai ko was really special. Highly recommend.

Kenta was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. He kept excusing himself for “bad English” despite the fact he very much was near fluent, and able to relay the history and information of Gion Kobu and Miyagawa Cho. Never before would I have expected to learn so much about Geiko and Maiko, and the intricacies of their practices and training is really something. There is a lot of fetishisation of Geisha/Geiko/Maiko in the west, due to popular media portrayals, and Kenta (and of course our lovely Maiko Miyo) were more than happy to provide as much information as possible, especially to remove western negative preconception's.
