What To Expect

Our dog sledding is located only a 45-minute drive from Tromsø, at the gateway to the Lyngen Alps. This area gives you stunning views over the majestic mountain peaks (up to 1400 meters!) and the fjord at the same time! Our tour involves 60 minutes of dogsledding in a thrilling ride along tree-lined trails and through open terrain. A briefing on how to handle the sled will be given before the trip. It’s not that hard, as the dogs are eager to run and follow the team in front of them. During the ride, you will be the musher and a part of a team together with your dogs. Your travelling partner will be sitting on the sled, and you switch positions halfway. Our guides will lead groups of 3-4 guest teams each. If you are a single person, you may be teamed up with another single person or one of our guides. After the adventure, we head inside to warm up by the fireplace and get a hot lunch and hot drinks. Breivikeidet has a large population of moose and reindeer during summer. We will tell you the story about the Moose, the Alaska Huskies and the daily life of our 4-legged friends.

I was struggling to figure out if I should do this or not. I was worried it was “abuse” to the dogs. I’m so glad I booked this! It was the most ORGANIZED your I have beee been on. Easy location to meet and they take you on a bus. Everything is well timed and the experience was amazing. They give you great easy instructions and anyone can drive the sleigh! The dogs were loving every minute of it and they could have gone all night! The guides are great and Lisa our guide was the best! YOU CANT MISS THIS!!!

The dog sledding was one of the highlights of our trip. Amazing!! You get great instructions on how to drive the sled, you ride through beautiful arctic landscapes, and then regroup hot soup and tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. The operation is top notch!! Highly recommended. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Incredible. Such an experience. The dogs were super friendly and lovely. The staff were so friendly and trusting. Amazing day, and the dogs seemed to have so much fun too. They really trust you with the sled to guide and control yourself. And the dogs are so well trained. So cool.

My wife describes this as warm and Fuzzy. It's an activituy that she wanted to do again even during the same trip. It was very well coordinated. The guide was superhelpfull. This is an activity that requires your actual participation to be sure that you take care of the dogs. Dress Warmly, Use mittens and snow pants. The can loan you stuff if you need it like sweatres, mittens or buffs.

We had the most wonderful time visiting the Harkinn Husky Tour with Best Arctic in December. The meeting point was easy to find and well-managed, the bus transfer was straightforward, and the experience itself was fantastic. Although the excursion is fairly active, the staff were inclusive at both ends of the spectrum, for both my teenage children and my parents in their 70s. The instructions were clear and helpful, and the actual tour was marvellous, and followed up by a really interesting chat with another guide where we learned what goes on behind the scenes with the dogs over a delicious fish or vegetarian stew round a roaring log fire in the cabin. Topped off by a glimpse of the northern lights, it was really top notch experience - thanks so much.

Great tour, with lovely dogs, and an even better staff who were extremely knowledgeable and safe and gave us great confidence, the only advice I would give you is to be very careful about where you step especially if you go pet the dogs near their houses otherwise you’ll be tracking poop and pee on your boots and if they give you the opportunity to wear their boots, do it… Take my advice you’ll thank me later

  • Unpleasant accident

On December 19, 2025, my spouse and I participated in a self-drive dog sledding activity. Before the activity, only a few minutes of basic information were given verbally, and we started immediately afterward. I took the driver’s position at the back, while my spouse sat at the front as a passenger. The track was uneven, with uphill and downhill sections and sharp turns. The trees along the sides were positioned very close to the sled’s path. We faced the risk of falling several times. At the halfway point of the track, as we were going downhill, the sled tipped over sideways. After I fell, the sled became free and started to slide away. After being dragged for approximately 10 meters, the sled hook that my spouse was holding got caught in her clothing and on a tree, bringing the sled to a stop. I ran after it in panic and anxiously checked whether the hook had pierced my spouse’s body. Fortunately, the sled hook had only caught on the snowsuit she was wearing. I asked the staff member on the sled in front of us for help, because my spouse was unable to walk due to her leg hitting the tree. Since there was no safety or assistance unit within the track, we were told to continue and finish the course. Unfortunately, my spouse’s leg was seriously injured, so we went to the hospital and began medical treatment. The organizing company had taken no safety precautions within the track. For participants experiencing this activity for the first time, there was no appropriate safety equipment, nor was there any environmental adjustment on the downhill sections and sharp turns of the track. There was also no emergency safety or intervention team available for accidents that might occur anywhere along the course. Before the activity, there was no written or verbal briefing about possible risks and dangers. After the accident, no assistance was offered for medical intervention. Tromsø, Norway, is a major tourist destination. How do government and municipal authorities supervise tour activities? Are there truly no procedures or implementation requirements for such uncontrolled and dangerous sports and activities? When the lives of people coming from all over the world are entrusted to you, how do you take responsibility for this?

Endurance Fidelity Intelligence..... embodied by the indomitable spirit of the sled dog What a fantastic experience this turned out to be ! From meeting the dogs to actually mushing your team of dogs through stunning snow covered landscapes. Even though it was -13°C i stayed lovely & warm (mushing does take some effort). This is an activity NOT TO BE MISSED. I've not been so happy for a while as I was when mushing & helping the dogs when required to do so.

  • WONDERFUL SLEDGING EXPERIENCE WITH ALASKAN HUSKIES

    marcoq855,,Mar 19, 2025

    - Review from Tripadvisor

We did this tour on March 8, 2025 and it was a wonderful experience. At the beginning we had doubts about whether to do it or not because for us it is important to respect animals but we did some research and chose this tour because all the dogs were Alaskan Huskies, a breed of dogs that for physical characteristics needs to travel long distances and is able to pull many times their weight. Arrived on the spot we had confirmation, the dogs were all well kept, sweet and affectionate even with us as well as with the guides and above all they could not wait to leave with the sled. They were impatient and tried to leave. The guide explained well how to bring the sled and give commands to the dogs. It was great to ride the sledge while our 4 huskies pulled us on the snow. I was driving and my girlfriend was sitting, and then we switched places halfway through. Highly recommended because it is a beautiful experience and especially in respect of dogs and nature.
