With this tour, you will enjoy a small-group experience with personalised attention while discovering the beauty of Dunedin City and the Otago Peninsula. You’ll also avoid the delays that come with larger groups getting on and off the bus.
You’ll be introduced to the city in the best possible way, with an itinerary designed to maximise your time. See Dunedin’s key highlights and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Otago Peninsula via Highcliff Road — a route not suitable for larger buses, offering you a more exclusive and immersive experience.
Your tour also includes a 1.5-hour guided walk at OPERA (Otago Peninsula Eco Restoration Alliance), where you will visit the Yellow-eyed Penguin habitat, observe a variety of wildlife such as New Zealand fur seals, Little Blue Penguins in their nests, and occasionally sea lions — and with some luck, even Yellow-eyed Penguins. Wildlife viewing varies from day to day, each visit offers something different, as nature decides what you will see.

This was a fabulous tour! Theresa was our tour guide. She was awesome. Knew numerous facts about the areas we visited. Plenty of stops and photo oppertunities. The botanical garden stop gave us a chance to see the native new zealand plants and rare birds. The best part of the tour was the "Opera" Santuary stop. We saw 3 baby penguin chicks nesting in the wild. Absolutely a must do excursion!!

Wonderful day seeing the highlights of Dunedin (loved the train station) and the wildlife and scenery of Otago Peninsula. Our guide Warren was great, very friendly and knowledgeable. Saw our penguins (mostly in nests) and sea lions. We ended up with a private tour as another cruise ship skipped the port, and really appreciated that the tour went on.

Wonderful guide who took us to see some of the sights before dropping us at OPERA to see the Penguins. Good day.

Great overall tour and pickup from port. Murray our guide was awesome. We had a 20 seater bus with 8 people which was fantastic and plenty of space to move around and get pics. Communication was excellent, and the owner of Fantail tours contacted us a few days before to confirm arrangements and baby seats for our kids, as well as knowing our ship was arriving earlier and asking if we wanted to leave earlier to align with the earlier departure time. Highly recommended tour for any cruiser and way cheaper plus get to see way more then ship tours

I booked my tour on different day then I was supposed to be. And importantly I noticed days after. Asta noticed my ship is arriving different day and she adjusted it without any argument. I would highly recommend to book with Asta.

Teresa is the best tour guide! We loved all her stories. She knows the history and the current situation with the city.

The tour guide, Teresa really made this. She remembered every persons name, had water, candy, sunscreen and had thought through what you might need when and why. Very organised and clear with times and what you are doing. Defo one of the best tour guided ive ever seen. The tour itself was well worth it, really great overview of the area. We particularly liked a trip to the supermarket as an opportunity to get some lunch, great to see and try some local food items. The only disappointment i had was the amount of penguins at the penguin reserve - i saw only 2 little blue penguins in their boxes and then 2 yellow eyed penguins in the sanctuary part so through a fence. It seemed the penguin reserve was under new ownership and they were updating things. Worth going to support them, but don’t expect to see loads of penguins. Dunedin as a place is beautiful and worth a visit, this tour takes you to all the key places and sights. Highly recommend!
