• THE Elephant Experience in Koh Samui

  If you’re wondering whether to book this experience, if it’s worth the cost, and if it’s an ethical sanctuary, let me assure you that this is THE best elephant experience on Koh Samui. We had an on-time transfer from our hotel to the sanctuary, where we were greeted with guava juice, water and some biscuits. After the remaining groups arrived (circa 30 people total), we received a talk educating us on the sanctuary’s 7 elephants and the history behind the sanctuary. We then moved to prepare elephant food and seed bombs, a hands on experience that contributes to the sanctuary being able to provide chemical-free, home-grown food to their elephants. Upon completion of this, we fed the elephants the food we’d made plus some bananas. The elephants each have their own keeper who accompanies them and ensures they are stress-free. A gentle touch of the elephant’s face is permitted, but nowhere else on the body. We then followed the elephants into the jungle, a short 5 minute walk away, to observe them in their ‘natural’ habitat/roaming environment. Here we heard more about where each elephant came from and had some photo opportunities. One of the elephants then had time to play in the mud, followed by us using slingshots to launch our pumpkin seed bombs out into the jungle to grow over the next 4 months. Having walked back to the main sanctuary, we enjoyed ice towels and a hot or cool drink, before watching an elephant cool off in the water. To wrap the day up, we ate vegetarian meals and watched a video of our group enjoying the activities throughout the day. 100% would recommend. Allergies catered for. Food/drink included in price. Toilets and good hand washing facilities on site. Gift shop at sanctuary with very reasonable prices. Round-trip transfer included. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Book book book!

  We arrived to a well-staffed and well organized elephant home. We learned the elephant’s names, ages and personality traits. This gave us a sense of connection to the great creatures! We mixed some treats for them and learned how to feed them. Their trunks are so nimble and feel like a one fingered hand when you’re touching them! Then we walked out to their grassy jungle farm to see them grazing and even having a mud bath. Upon returning to our picnic tables we enjoyed some ice cloths for our sweaty brows, and some nice snacks. The elephants were given a spray down and one had a nice dip in their pool. Her trunk sprayed herself down and a few onlookers as well! I loved learning how smart elephants are and that each has quite a personality! Great, helpful staff care for the welfare of these animals. This was a wonderful interactive experience.

  This elephant sanctuary is a must-visit. The level of care and compassion that the keepers and tour guides demonstrate for the elephants it’s beautiful to see. They do everything in their power to make sure the rescued elephants can live a relaxing and peaceful life. This sanctuary is an amazing demonstration of animal ethics and care. Can’t reccomend strongly enough.

  Excellent experience. Very well organised. To get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures and find that they’ve all been rescued from terrible living conditions. That they can now live out their lives in such an awesome sanctuary is incredible. Highly recommended.

  The sanctuary was very clean, & well kept! The staff was amazing! Food was very good! The elephants were so lovely! My husband and I had an amazing experience!!! We learned a lot of things about elephants! Love love this tour!!!
