Exciting Jeep tour and walk on the crests of the craters in search of hornito and lava flow caves until reaching the wonderful view of the prehistoric Valle del Bove to discover the origins of the Etna volcano.
The emotion that our excursion provokes is unique. You will feel like walking on the moon and going to the center of the Earth. Walking along the summit perimeter of the craters you can admire the incredible volcanic cone from where the lava came out.

What To Expect
Mount Etna
On the slopes of Etna, the path reveals the volcano. The 2001 eruptive vent emerges, a lunar landscape of basalt rocks. The warm soil underfoot and the smell of sulfur indicate active fumaroles. In front of us, the mouth is a lateral explosion crater, walls with layers of lava. Glowing rocks convey the dynamics of the magma that shaped this place. Although many years have passed, the eruptive vent is still active, with fumarolic activity and fractures in the ground. The landscape shows volcanological signs, such as the presence of volcanic bombs and new fractures. We stop, aware of the geological process. The eruptive vent, with its volcanological spectacle, offers a unique opportunity to understand the internal dynamics of the volcano. The panorama, dotted with lava formations, is a visual lesson in Etna's geological history. With this show in our hearts, we continue the journey, taking the memory of these places with us.
Mount Etna
Cave of the Carcarazzi Craters It is a vertically developing cavity located within the eruptive apparatus of the 1766 eruption of the Calcarazzi mountains, and like all cavities of this type, the walls are extremely unstable as they are made up of welded slag. In the eruptive fracture some magma remains which is consolidating, but a superficial part of the fracture can remain empty and accessible through the explosive or effusive vents, giving rise to a type of volcanic cave. Although the eruptive systems of Etna are very numerous, cavities of this type open only in a few of them, in fact most of the secondary craters remain occluded by the pyroclastic material at the end of their activity.

BEWARE — Took our money

1.00BUYERS BEWARE We booked a tour while on a cruise ship. When the cruise ship ran late to the port, we contacted the tour operator asking whether we could have a delayed start. We were told that a delayed start would not be possible. Which is weird since IT WAS A PRIVATE TOUR and the Jeep would’ve been for just for the four of us so it would’ve completely been possible for the driver to just wait for us. At first, they said there would be a possibility of a refund since we weren’t able to make the tour. After following up with them for two days, they ultimately came back and said that no refund was possible, and offered us an unspecified discount on a future booking — for the NEVER eventuality that we ever try to book with them again. Their claim was that the driver had already driven out at the time they got our note that’s our cruise ship was running late. But there is no way that the drivers time was worth the 700+ that they kept.

5.00It was a very nice trip to Etna and the surrounding area with the vineyards. Alessandro Mertoli was an amazing guide, explaining everything with a lot of humor and a lot of pleasure. Gave a lot of information about the volcano and the surrounding area.

5.00This tour was one of the most memorable days of our trip to Sicily! Alessandro’s colleague Corrado picked us up right from our hotel in Siracusa and drove us to the area surrounding Etna where we met Alessandro. His passion for Etna was infectious, and he has a deep understanding of its history. We loved the trek over the lava flows and craters, and he made sure we were well equipped with hiking poles and guided us safely through the snow. We were amazed by how close Alessandro brought us to the edge of past craters, yet we always felt very safe. The lunch and wine tasting made it a complete experience. We felt like we were in great hands with both Alessandro and Corrado. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to have an authentic Etna experience!

5.00Alessandro was a great guide and we had a great trip to Mt. Etna. It’s snowed so the lava caves were buried, but we had fun and lots of selfies with our guide. I highly recommend.

5.00Alessandro was an amazing tour guide who knows so much about Mt Etna, but presents it in a way that kept our 10 & 13 yo boys engaged the whole time while we all learned. We loved seeing the lava flows, a lava vein cave and pole trekking on Mt Etna. The weather wasn’t the best the day of our trip but we were able to still do everything, miss most of the rain, find the sun and a little snow. Trekking on Mt Etna is like being in a magical other realm and my 10 yo really had a blast. The Sicilian products were also delicious and lunch at the Refugio was amazing. You shouldn’t miss the tour with Alessandro or Mt Etna during your time in Sicily, it’s a must do!

5.00The tour started a little shaky as traffic caused a delay but once we got out of the city and started the real part of the tour we were mesmerized! Alessandro provided a wealth of knowledge about Mt. Etna and her many varied eruptions. Walking the lava fields and crawling through the tubes beneath them made for a memorable experience. Having a nice lunch and some wine from the region just rounded out the day! His sharing the experience of growing up and living in the shadows of Etna just made it that much better.

5.00Fantastic adventure from start to finish. Alessandro, our guide, provided an explanation of the two types of volcanoes. We explored a cave created by a lava vein. We had an opportunity to walk on the "moon" of ash created by a past Mt. Etna eruption. We were also treated to lunch. The tour was safe and well paced by an extraordinary guide
