Santos provided much history about the missions, missionaries, plant knowledge, church saints. The historic olive tree was gnarly… literally and figuratively. Several lunch choices and plenty of beverages. Nice companionship.

I did not get to go. I had a confirmed tour and waited for 15 minutes in my hotel lobby past 9AM. Then I tried to contact the tour operator, and got an email that there was no tour as they need 4 guests to have a tour. I was told to postpone or cancel. I am flying out tomorrow. If cancelled I need to get the refund from TripAdvisor, not from the tour operator. It is unclear how I will get a refund from TripAdvisor, as it was not cancelable when I booked. The question is, why was I allowed to complete the booking if there were not 4 in the group?

There is a lot of driving to get to the Mision, but it is through a beautiful and interesting landscape. The road is winding in many spots as it climbs in altitude, but the van is very comfortable and air conditioned. Santos was an excellent tour guide and driver. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the Mision and area. Lunch was in a small restaurant near the Mision, where we had a number of dishes to choose from. Overall a very nice outing.

Fantastic guide who was really knowledgeable and friendly, and was able to answer all sorts of questions. It was nice to have a restaurant lunch, though it was pretty salty and options were limited (combo of small burrito and quesadilla or just burritos, both with rice and refried beans). There was also beer and water on the shuttle, which was pretty cramped even for average size people but otherwise clean and comfortable. Of our three excursions we enjoyed this guide the most. Instead of taking the shuttle back, we asked to stay in town to walk around a bit so he took us to the wild Loreto office to arrange our ride back at a later time in the day. That saved us from paying for a round trip ride into town separately and we just paid for one way back.

San Javier is a special place and worth visiting, stepping back into history. The mission is significant as the second oldest and it's a lovely little mountain town with amazing scenery.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the mission and local people as his grandfather lives in the small town where it is located. There was actually a photo of his grandfather’s great grandmother in the local restaurant so you know how far back the heritage goes.
