We aim for our tour to have all of the above in addition to ensuring that the walking tour is comfortable and enjoyable. Why a guided tour with Istoria? Why not? Why spend excessive time and energy navigating?
Guests will start the tour with a shared food tasting experience of a local dish, before proceeding with the exploration of Chinatown itself.
The selected route is a curated journey where we gain an appreciating of the stories frames by the shophouses and murals, each facade echoing the resilience of generations.
Together, we will explore the vibes of Chinatown.
Finally, we will conclude the tour with a Chinese tea session, a deliberate mindful pause as we slow down & savor aromas. That's what a holiday is supposed to be.

I had an amazing time on this food tour with Istoria Collective in the Chinatown area, covering Telok Ayer, Kreta Ayer, and Cross Street. It was the perfect mix of Singapore’s immigrant history, culture, and seriously good food. We started from Telok Ayer MRT Exit A and walked to the Fuk Tak Chi Museum, where we learned about the early Chinese immigrants and the roots of the area. From there, we made our way through Chinatown, indulging in some real local gems and iconic delicacies along the way, including the famous 88 Roast Meat Specialist and Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa near the Hong Lim area. Every stop was thoughtfully chosen. The char siew and crispy pork rice at 88 Roast Meat specialist was a highlight, with juicy, perfectly roasted meat full of flavor. The laksa was spicy, rich, and comforting, exactly the kind of bowl you crave in sunny Singapore. We also enjoyed kopi and crispy kaya toast, which was a lovely mid-tour break. We ended off at Chiew Kee soy sauce chicken rice restaurant, which was incredibly satisfying and a great way to wrap up the food journey. The tour lasted about three hours but never felt rushed. There were nice breaks in between cultural stops (exploring streets in Chinatown, a Chinese temple and Sri Mariamman Temple) at the food stalls and restaurants, which made the whole experience very comfortable and easy to enjoy. What really made the tour special was our guide, Serene. She is warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about Singapore’s food and heritage. She shared many interesting stories and cultural insights that I never would have picked up on my own. The tour felt local, and thoughtfully curated. If you want to understand Singapore beyond just eating at hawker centers on your own, this is absolutely worth doing. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves food, culture, and meaningful travel experiences.

The tour I went for was the 10am one. It's a very good timing because it's not too hot and not too crowded either. The food was quite a bit of a variety of local food and very well chosen. I ate Cantonese style roast pork and char siew, laksa, curry puff, kaya toast and chicken rice throughout and it was a marvellous experience because not only was the food good, because meals were well timed in between sight seeing, you would never feel overwhelmed. In fact, the whole tour was quite well paced between sight seeing interesting places of Chinatown and stopping for meals, nothing felt rushed and we could enjoy both things comfortably. The walking part was mainly under shelter, so even when the sun was out, it was enjoyable and not sweaty at all. I got to explore various parts of Chinatown I normally don't go to and it was really interesting to learn about various cultural and historical facts about the different temples, way of lives, architecture of the past.

This tour allowed me to see Chinatown from a completely different perspective, even as a local. Instead of just covering the usual history, Ronald shared so many interesting and fun facts that made the area feel alive and relatable. What I really enjoyed was how the stories connected the past to the present. It didn’t feel like a history lesson at all, instead it felt like history coming to life as we walked through the streets. Places I had passed by countless times suddenly had meaning, personality and context. The tour was engaging, easy to follow and full of little details I would never have noticed on my own. It was a refreshing way to rediscover Chinatown and appreciate it on a deeper level. Highly recommended for both visitors and locals who think they already know the area.

If you want to know where some of the good hidden local food and history of Chinatown are, follow this tour with Ronald! My friend and I had a thoroughly enjoyable morning with our affable and knowledgeable guide. The pace of the tour is just right and he made sure we were comfortable throughout the tour. It was a good amount of walk, eat and sightseeing. We learnt a lot about Chinatown and the food from various dialect groups. We tasted some of the town’s yummy food and even got to interact with some of the hawkers and shopkeepers. Overall it was a morning well spent with Ronald!

If you are overwhelmed by what and where to eat in Chinatown, I highly recommend this gastronomical walking tour curated by Ronald. He is well-informed and humorous. I appreciate the leisure pace and weather-friendly comfort design of this tour. Our palates were constantly teased by authentic local delights, some bearing the Michelin Bib Gourmand hallmark! My friend and I had an enjoyable morning immersing ourselves in the curious juxtaposition of history and modernity while interacting with hawkers and shopkeepers. Thank you for the memorable experience.
