As you choose this tour, the number one thing on your mind is: why should I use this GUIDE instead of the others?
Well, I have lived in the USA for over 12 years and all of my tours are SOLELY conducted in ENGLISH.
It is not easy to really experience Dakar on your own. You may take a standard city tour. Sure, you will see a lot but, in all probability, the Dakar experience will escape you without the expertise of a knowledgeable guide to show you the hidden spots. As I take you on this popular tour combination, my whole goal is not to make you love DAKAR the way I do, but to make you understand it in order to turn your visit into a long-lasting memory. However, you cannot visit Dakar without seeing Goree island. The last place African Slaves saw before being shipped across the ocean never to return. A visit to the Door-Of-No-Return in the Slave House will give you a sense of why GOREE is the most visited place in the country.

Island of Goree
GOREE island was the most important Slave depot in West Africa between the 15th and the 18th century. Slaves were brought in against their will under horrible conditions and suffering unspeakable.abuse. A visit to the door-of-no- return will give you an idea of millions of African Slaves being sorted out and led into the Slave ships yelling for mercy.
Dakar Railway Station
A wonderful example of colonial architecture. One of the most important architectural landmarks

Mediocre guide. Did not want to spent too much energy/time. Convenient though that tickets were bought and quick passage at the ferry terminal.

A good, informative visit about the slave trade. Interesting to see the sand artists at work. A pity that the pace of the tour did not allow time to see more of the island.

Oumar, our tour guide, picked us up directly from the cruise ship port, which is very helpful. Oumar gave us a great day, His passion for Isle de Goree was appreciated by all six of us. The tour was well organized, was beyond informative, and into the emotions that seeing the remnants of the slave trade evoke . We also did a quick tour of the city , hitting the highlights. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour.

Oumar met us at the cruise ship and we were immediately struck by his energy, enthusiasm and positivity. He speaks impeccable English. We had booked the tour as a private tour but had been notified that due to a shortage of English speaking guides we would be sharing with four others. Oumar had arranged a 22 seater van to ensure we would be comfortable. The trip to Goree Island was interesting and sobering. Visitors should be aware that there may be a lot of waiting around for the ferry and it can be hot. We had to be back on board at a specific time and Oumar ensured we got to see as much of Dakar as possible. All in all a very worthwhile day.

Oumar was a great tour guide and was very knowledgable of Senegal’s history. His passion for what he does is very clear which really elevates the experience. Oumar also made sure to take every photo opportunity and got me some great shots. Moussa was also a great driver. Oumar also helped me with the price of things to ensure I was not overpaying in the markets and stalls. The complimentary meal was the cherry on the top of an already amazing experience. Highly highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore Dakar and learn more about Senegal and its history.

I spent a whole day with Oumar Kebe, a passionate guide who knows the history of his country well. Very helpful and reliable. I ate the best traditional cuisine, visited the fishing community, the town and especially the island of Goree, unforgettable and moving experience. *I spent an entire day with Oumar Kebe, a passionate guide who knows his country’s history very well.
