Not to be missed. Better than expected and we had high expectations. Ben, our guide, was terrific, both highly knowledgable and accommodating

Had an awesome day led by Jeff. He had so much knowledge about everything NZ along with a great sense of humour. Kept us entertained all day. He took us to some great hiking and photo spots which we would have never known about on our own. The cruise was so scenic. Great to be on a smaller boat. Highly recommended tour.

The trip includes a guided drive to and from Milford Sound from Te Anau and a two-hour boat cruise on the sound, including a tasty picnic lunch. The drives down and back include a number of photo stops and several interesting short hikes. Our Fiordland Trips and Tramps driver/guide was charming, and knowledgeable about local culture, history, and horticulture.

This was a wonderful tour. Our guide, Ben, had a great sense of humor, was very knowledgeable about the area and a safe driver over very winding mountainous roads. The lunch was both nutritious and tasty. The cruise was enjoyable but it's hard not to enjoy with such beautiful scenery.

We thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the tour to Milford Sound with Olivia as our guide. She enhanced our experience with history, photo stops, hike, personal antidotes of the area and much more. We were grateful to leave the driving to her so we could fully enjoy the trip (getting picked up from our lodging was a bonus as well). The cruise was amazing with the rain and wind and WATERFALLS! Too many to count! Olivia’s excitement of the waterfalls was contagious 😊 Highly recommend this family-owned and run company.

What a fabulous day. Out guide, Olivia, couldn't have been better. She was interesting, enthusiastic and fun. Even though the day was wet, it was a great day, with waterfalls streaming down wherever you looked. The stops on the way for photos and walks were all good. The boat trip was amazing. We even spotted seals. I highly recommend it.

We had an incredible day touring Milford Sound. Our tour guide, Phil, was an incredibly friendly person. He did a great job with teaching all of us on the tour what he could, and pointed out lots of spots along the way. Would recommend the experience to anyone wanting to travel to Milford Sound!

We had an awesome day with Grace as our informative guide. She was very knowledgeable about the history of the Milford Road as well as plant life along the track. Grace made sure that we had a good time. She is an excellent driver! The catering was A plus.

The Trips and Tramps tour company did an excellent job on this tour and one other we took with them (The Jet Boat + Kepler Track Hike which I will review separately) The Guide picked us up in front of our hotel (just like others) in a small van that I believe had about 12 people. The guide was very informative, friendly , helpful , and accommodating. The guide clearly had been doing this a long time and her experience showed. And she still had lots of enthusiasm We stopped every so often along the way to Milford Sound, which was nice as it broke up the drive. Much of the area is truly gorgeous, and different from one part to the next. Frankly, we loved the landscapes, ponds and other features along the road to Milford Sound, more that we liked Milford. That is not to say Milford was not worth it, it was, just the ride there, and the stops we made along the way, were drop dead gorgeous (Mirror Lake in particular in the morning and the way the sunlight was). The boat on Milford Sound was superb. Good boat and nice guide up one side of the sound to the sea and back the other. Pulling in close to waterfalls and some sea life . The boat is not run by Trips and Tramps and you are not on a small group for the boat ride. I knew this ahead of time, so when many tour companies say small group..it means the tour ...other than the boat. I forget how many people were on the boat, but it looked like a lot boarded, from many different tour companies, but did not seem that crowed on the boat itself. It seems all the tour companies use one of the several boat companies that are there. This too is very well organized. The boat captain and person explaining things did a very very good job, and as i said pulled us in close to see things. Trips and Tramps had given us a sack lunch to take with us to eat on the boat. It was a lot of food; I certainly did not go hungry . A chicken wrap sandwich, muffin, apple, and several other things (I cannot remember all of them) After the boat ride, our guide drove us to an area on the foreshore of the sound for pictures of a water fall and walk through the forest to see various insects, birds, and plants. Again, very informative and a very nice short walk along the sound (Originally i had thought about doing the long hike in the Sound, and so glad i did not). On the way back from Milford Sound we stopped for a short hike up a canyon through the forest along a river and to some rapids and small waterfalls . It was a very nice hike. Not too steep. And very beautiful. We got back to Te Anau on time and everyone was dropped off back at their hotels/accommodations Given how much we enjoyed this tour, the excellent guide, van, lunch etc, and we had a similar excellent experience on our second tour with them (Jet Boat + Kepler Track Hike) I would highly recommend this company One note – the second half of the drive to Milford is along winding roads. Although the guide had mentioned this before we left, and offered anyone who might be prone to car sickness to sit up front, someone else grabbed it first. So, with the winding roads and being stuck in the middle of the van I got a bit nauseous. Fortunately, one of the other guests had some travel sickness pills for me to take on the way back. So I highly recommend taking some pills before and with you, if you have any inclination to get car sick.

We were so pleased with our experience with Trips&Tramps. Thoroughly recommend this excursion as it is a smaller group so more personal and you get to stop at places the big tours don’t. Our guide was Phil and he was brilliant. Amazing local knowledge and of nature. He was also a really good story teller, telling us all about New Zealand and of Milford. Very engaging and funny. He’s a reall credit to the company. If I were to book again I would only consider booking with Trips&Tramps. We wholeheartedly recommend this company and especially Phil. Thank you for an amazing experience. Sara and Ian. UK.
