Nizwa is the largest city in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region in Oman and was the capital of Oman proper. Nizwa is about 140 km (1.5 hours) from Muscat. The population is estimated at around 700,000 people including the two areas of Burkat Al Mooz and Al Jabel Al Akhdar. Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman and it was once a center of trade, religion, education and art. Its Jama (grand mosque) was formerly a center for Islamic learning. Nizwa acquired its importance because it has been an important meeting point at the base of the Western Hajar Mountains. Set amid a verdant spread of date palms, it is strategically located at the crossroads of routes linking the interior with Muscat and the lower reaches of Dhofar thus serving as the link for a large part of the country. Today, Nizwa is a diverse prosperous place with numerous agricultural, historical and recreational aspects. Nizwa is a center for date growing and is the market place for the area.

1.00ABSOLUTELY NOT! Through my trusted agency at least 6 months ago I had booked a private tour, for two people, of a day for the tour of Nizwa , Birket and Wadi, recommending, until the day before the exit, an experienced and experienced guide. In the morning we found a person, dressed in a modest way, presenting himself as our guide sent by the agency. As soon as we got into the dirty car, we immediately knew that it was absolutely not a guide and immediately I wrote to the tour company in the area to express my great opposition and perplexity and the answer was that they would “investigate” to see exactly if that person was licensed to carry tourists around. NEVER HAD AN ANSWER, even though it's been 5 days since all this happened! During the day this person never explained anything to us, in the car he was constantly talking on his cell phone and as soon as we stopped he would start smoking telling us “go there and look around”. The only answers he often gave us were incorrect and when I asked him about his origins and to show me his travel guide card he told me that “he was Tunisian, he was alone 4 years in Oman and that the card had expired while waiting for the new one”. The visits to the sites were without any explanation and at lunchtime, which we skipped because very displeased, he wanted to take us to a place that already from outside described the dirt and basicity. The return a three-hour journey without stops and without a word from him, driving too fast and with the great risk of a SERIOUS ACCIDENT almost upon arrival at the hotel where we were literally unloaded without even receiving a greeting. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THIS AGENCY for the absolute lack of seriousness, professionalism and honesty.

5.00Team at the top , at each of the excursions organized, for the boat trips of the friendly crews and decorating each trip a little more, perfect organization , despite the distance from our hotel , the transfers were perfect , punctual , friendly , drivers at the top! We can only congratulate this organization for continuing to guarantee a stay in Oman that lives up to expectations. Thank you.

4.00Well organized day Pick up by bus at the hotel on time. Lots of road to go to Muscat Nizwa. The places visited are superb and enchanting. Nizwa's souk was great with lots of Omani specialties and no soliciting tourists. Very nice. On the other hand, we were all disappointed to have no explanation on the places visited by our guide who was content to give us meeting points and return times. We were not offered an audio guide either while there were some at Jabreen Castle.
