National Museum of Ethiopia
You will start your city tour of Addis Ababa with the National Museum of Ethiopia. This is one of the best museums in quality and diversity of the exhibits. Archeological exhibits include the 3.5 million-year-old fossil of Lucy (or Dinkinesh – ‘thou art wonderful’- in the native language), a hominoid woman of the specious of Australopithecus Afarensis. The discovery of Lucy’s fossil in 1974 forced a complete rethink of human genealogy, providing that our ancestors were walking 2.5 million years earlier than had been supposed. The National Museum also contains many wonderful artifacts dating back to pre-Axumite civilization.
We continue our tour of Addis Ababa with visit to the Ethnographic Museum which is found inside the compound of the Addis Ababa University. This museum is very different to the National Museum, but equally absorbing, this museum exhibit, a varied array of artifacts and daily objects related to most ethnic groups living in Ethiopia.

We value the human connection and people like our guide Teshome and our driver Tesfu made us feel like part of their family. It’s because of people like them that we will always remember Ethiopia fondly. I’m handicap and Teshome me understood my difficulties and made accommodations so I wouldn’t have to walk so much. He’s also very knowledgeable and speaks great English. I ask a lot of questions that he responded kindly and patiently. Thank you? brother! Best wishes.

Teshome was a great guide and this tour was exceptional. He was able to take us to the different sites on our tour, which included the National Museum of Ethiopia, Merkato Market, and other sights. He was very knowledgeable and informative about the history of the country and was able to help us understand how the city and country have come to be. I highly recommend Teshome. Don’t miss this tour.

Enjoyed this tour to the fullest. Teka was amazing, informative and kind. At 79 years old, he was patient and understanding. With my daughter taking the lead, Teka made sure I did not feel left out. A blessing. I will cherish this tour and share with grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is never too late. Thank you so much.

This tour was amazing. Our tour guide Teka contacted us the day before to confirm the pick up time and location. On the day of our tour Teka arrived on time and introduced himself and the driver. We begin our tour with a drive up the mountain to Mount Entoto. We stopped to see the Eucalyptus tree and enjoyed a view of the entire city. Next, we headed to Addis Ababa University where we visited the Institute of Ethiopian Studies and the Ethnographic Museum. Teka was very knowledgeable about the museum and all the artifacts. We learned that the building used to be the Emperor's home. Next, we went to the National Museum of Ethiopia where we saw the 3.5 million-year-old fossil of "Lucy or Dinkinesh." Next, we drove to Mercato Market where we experienced the high pace of selling everything from clothing, food and spices, electronics, and much more. We then visited St. George's Cathedral. During our visit to the Cathedral, we were fortunate to see young college students praying, worshipping, and chanting. We also went to eat at Addis Ababa Restaurant and had a traditional Ethiopian meal of injera, goat and vegetables. We learned this restaurant used to be home to Emperor's wife. Out entire tour was an experience of a lifetime, however the personal knowledge and patience of our tour guide, Teka, made the experience something me and my mother will always cherish. If you want to experience a great tour of Addis Ababa, this is the tour for you, and if you want to make the tour more personal and special, request Teka as your tour guide.

We loved our city tour of Addis Ababa. It was great to see what the city offered. We felt well looked after and very safe. But the best part was speaking to our guide Teshome Antachew about the city, the culture and his life. This made the tour more personal. We shared a wonderful traditional Ethiopian lunch together. I would highly recommend this tour as well as our guide Teshome Antachew.
