Hiking in Azerbaijan is a favorite activity among tourists and locals alike. This tour will allow you to become acquainted with the local culture and see fascinating views of the nature of Griz village.

Griz is one of the most hard to reach villages in Shahdag region. Locals usually earn for living by carpet making, keeping animals and grazing them. In the past, Griz was a fortress, but now only the ruins remain from the original fortress.

What To Expect

Quba

Road to Quba. Griz Waterfall Hiking Tour usually starts at 07:30 AM with picking guests up from their location within Baku. First stop is the Quba district which is best known for its production of incredibly delicious apples and fine carpets. It takes about 2 hours to get there. There we will switch our cars to off-road Niva Ladas or UAZs, that are more convenient to get to the mountain village.

Road to Griz Village. On the way to the village, we shall see a large number of mind-blowing views. If you wish, we can even stop there to make some photos for memory. It takes an hour and a half to get there. Griz is one of the most hard to reach villages in Shahdag region. Locals usually earn for living by carpet making, keeping animals and grazing them. In the past, Griz was a fortress, but now only the ruins remain from the original fortress. After arriving in the village you will have a short break. During this time, you can enjoy a cup of hot tea in the village house.

This was a magical experience that stands as the highlight of our two weeks in Azerbaijan. The village is wonderfully remote and really tricky to reach, the driver did a fabulous job of reaching it via a series of narrow rocky roads. Honestly, I don't know how he did it, incredibly skilful, careful and patient. Our guide Sabina was the perfect host and gave us plenty of insight into Azerbaijan and its culture throughout the day. Having tea and dinner in a villager's home is something you'll never forget, while the hike itself provides breathtaking views. As for the frozen waterfall, you're not gonna be disappointed, it is like something out of a fairytale. Check out my full write up on Leighton Travels dot com.

Our fabulous guide Sabina provided my wife and I with a wealth of history of the region which was all very informative and interesting. Great inter action with a local family in a remote area for a delicious lunch. Breathtaking views and she stopped at all the great points if interest it was all very well organized.

The trips with them has been very delightful. I have been part of several group tours. When I first moved to baku , their hiking tours gave me a opportunity of seeing all the places of azerbaijan , including the villages and the country sides ,moutains and forests , unseen waterfalls and snow mountains . They not only provided an oppurtunity to travel but also chance to meet and interact with like miinded people. They provided very cost effective trips and reasonable prices , which attracted the local crowd and foreigners equally well. The tour organisers spoke english quite well and had great organising skills. Over the years I have seen them improving the quality of tours. The travel insurances and the payments and pre-bookings facilities had improved. The one who runs the organisation , puts her heart in to making the travels and trips more satisfactory , and tries the best to get the most out of the trip for her clients , in terms of exploring and giving oppurtunity to interact with the local crowd. The owner herself had been a traveller and which is why they value the experiences and tries to deliver the same . Well organised , punctual , payments are clean, notifications are made promplty. Happy with their trips .
