What To Expect
Geyser del Tatio
El Tatio (from the Kunza “tata-iu”) which means “the grandfather who cries”, is one of the highest Geyser fields in the world. Located in the Cordillera de los Andes to the NE of San Pedro de Atacama, it is the largest group of geysers in the southern hemisphere. and the third largest in the world, after Yellowstone (USA) and Dolina Giezerow (Russia). The maximum expression of these fumaroles begins between 06:00 and 07:00 hrs. Approx. With temperatures reaching 85 C. On our return it is possible to observe fauna such as vicuñas, llamas, rheas, vizcachas, etc. Meanwhile in the Flora stand out the giant Cactus, llaretas, coirón, etc. We will observe from a viewpoint, the small town of Machuca, its few inhabitants are mainly dedicated to grazing and cheese production, very close to from the place is the Laguna Salada where families of flamingos, ducks and seagulls live with an imposing landscape of beauty.

5.00Great experience overall. Everything was well organized, with clear instructions provided in advance, and the pickup was right on time despite the early start. The itinerary was well planned, with several interesting stops along the way that added variety to the experience. The breakfast was a nice touch and well appreciated in such an early and cold environment. Our guide, Alex, was very passionate and made the experience even more engaging. Overall, a smooth and enjoyable tour.

5.00Alex was amazing. He came highly recommended and I highly recommend his tour with Whipala Expeditions! He drove safe, we were the first to use the bathrooms and the first to arrive at the geyser. He knew all the workers, he knew the flow, and the best places to wait and take pictures. Afterwards he made a delicious hearty breakfast at a lookout. Then we went to another beautiful lookout with lots of animals and birds. Alex pointed out wildlife on the drive, and he gave us suggestions for the town. He guided the tour in English and answered all my questions. I have a crossover car rented, but decided on the tour because Alex was so highly recommended. It would have been chaos driving and guiding myself. Absolutely worth it.

5.00Had a very good experience on my trip to the el tatio glaciers with Alex today. Like an idiot I forgot my coat and Alex gave me his for the morning. That was a huge deal because with wind chill the temperature was around 10 F and I would not have been able to get out of the bus!

5.00The tour is totally worth it, even though you have to get up early and cope with the cold. It is a unique place and is enjoyed to the fullest, taking into account the right coat and adapt to the height. The breakfast was very good. And Alexis was very efficient with very good disposition with passengers and delivers good information. You can see his experience.
