Geyser del Tatio
El Tatio (from the Kunza “tata-iu”) which means “the grandfather who cries”, is one of the highest Geyser fields in the world. Located in the Cordillera de los Andes to the NE of San Pedro de Atacama, it is the largest group of geysers in the southern hemisphere. and the third largest in the world, after Yellowstone (USA) and Dolina Giezerow (Russia). The maximum expression of these fumaroles begins between 06:00 and 07:00 hrs. Approx. With temperatures reaching 85 C. On our return it is possible to observe fauna such as vicuñas, llamas, rheas, vizcachas, etc. Meanwhile in the Flora stand out the giant Cactus, llaretas, coirón, etc. We will observe from a viewpoint, the small town of Machuca, its few inhabitants are mainly dedicated to grazing and cheese production, very close to from the place is the Laguna Salada where families of flamingos, ducks and seagulls live with an imposing landscape of beauty.

Visiting El Tatio Geysers was one of the most precious moments of our honeymoon. We arrived before sunrise - on Valentine’s Day, no less - and watching the steam rise into the cold morning air as the first light appeared was completely mystical. Being there so early meant we experienced the geysers at their most dramatic, with powerful plumes of steam illuminated by the soft dawn light. The landscape felt raw, ancient and almost otherworldly. Our guide, Alex, was exceptional. He has been leading this tour for years and his knowledge, passion and genuine warmth truly elevated the experience. He shared fascinating insights about the geothermal activity and the surrounding Andean ecosystem, answered every question with enthusiasm and made us feel completely at ease. He is also an excellent and very reassuring driver - something you deeply appreciate on those early mountain roads. Despite the cold, we were treated to a wonderful picnic breakfast prepared by Alex, which felt incredibly special in such a setting. The tour was also impressively well-organised, with timely pick-up and drop-off at our hotel, and the use of WhatsApp for all communications - before, during and after the trip, including sharing photos - was incredibly convenient and much appreciated. An unforgettable experience in every way!

Despite the sub freezing temperatures, this is a beautiful spot in the atacama. The guide was very informative. The scenery was very different with vapour plumes everywhere in the early light.

Marta the guide and Alejandro the driver, the best. They have made our experience more fun and we are the first to reach each spot. It was ideal. We loved it! The best of Whipala!!

Great experience overall. Everything was well organized, with clear instructions provided in advance, and the pickup was right on time despite the early start. The itinerary was well planned, with several interesting stops along the way that added variety to the experience. The breakfast was a nice touch and well appreciated in such an early and cold environment. Our guide, Alex, was very passionate and made the experience even more engaging. Overall, a smooth and enjoyable tour.
