Search begins at 7:00 a.m. (range of 15 blocks from the agency). Route: Salta, Güemes by highway, San Salvador de Jujuy, Volcano (technical stop), Purmamarca, Cuesta del Lipán, Abra del potrerillo, Nevado de Chañi, 40 minutes to 1 hour free in Salinas Grandes. Return to Purmamarca and 2 hours free. Within those 2 free hours you can do the Paseo de los Colorados between 30 to 40 minutes. Return to Salta between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Total distance: 460 km. Maximum height: 4170 meters. Duration: 12 hours

What To Expect
Salta
We will leave from the city of Salta, leaving through the central access of the city, taking the RN 9 and then entering the municipality of General Güemes, through the RN 34. Later we enter the province of Jujuy, where we will have the opportunity to know a little piece of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, passing through picturesque towns such as Yala, Volcán (technical stop) and Purmamarca where we will find the majestic Cerro de los 7 Colores

5.00The van showed up on time. Cesar, the tour guide was very courteous and had a good command of English language. Alfred, the bus driver too was very professional, making sure everyone onboard was comfortable during our 12 hours ride.

2.00There was a lot if wind from Purmamarca to Salinas Grandes, abd it was risky so to get there, but the guide wanted to bring us there anyway. It was also not well specified in the activity description here on Viator that getting Salinas Grandes means reach more than 4100 meters above sea level, and this can cause some altitude sickness. The guide didn’t assist too much in this sense, only repeating to get some coca leaves (which are not scientifically proved to have sone effect), and not giving any advice on what to eat to prevent altitude sickness. Moreover the trip by minivan was not too comfortable for a long journey like this. Not very recommended in our opinion.

5.00Great tour but be warned it is a long day. Route up the mountains beautiful and salt flats stunning. Lovely little village to call into for souvenirs and nice restaurants in village centre. It’s a long day but worth doing
