What To Expect

This wine tour departs Stellenbosch for a full day of visiting estates and enjoying wine tastings in the mountain-backed valleys of Cape Wine country around Stellenbosch. Cape Wine Academy-trained guides will customize the day's itinerary to ensure a fun trip for all. The small group tour (no more than 12 guests) visits at least three wine estates where you will learn about the region's wine-making heritage and enjoy tastings a minimum of four to seven wines per estate. All guides are fluent in English and Afrikaans. The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel or guesthouse in Stellenbosch between 9 and 10am. Once everyone is aboard, guides will work with guests to decide the best itinerary for the day taking into account wine varietal preferences, passenger interests, and previous regional tasting experience. Throughout the day, guides will share information about the South African wine industry and wine in a fun yet informative way. The tour includes all wine tasting fees, the guide, and collection and drop off from your hotel or guesthouse. Note that a lunch stop will be made, but it is at your expense — guests are no permitted to bring their own lunch. The tour concludes between 5 and 5:30pm at your Stellenbosch hotel or guesthouse.

Off the charts experience…. We highly recommend these guys. Danelle our guide made the experience highly educational but great fun. There is nothing she didn’t know. We will be back. We did a full day mystery tour and a half day wine/cheese/chocolate tour. I would repeat this every week if I could!!!!

Danielle was a great host. It was a small party tour and we were the only ones on this tour. We visited 3 wineries all very different but all with high quality tastings. Danielle was very knowledgeable and was a mine of wine and broader South African knowledge. From talking with her it is clear she knows a lot about wine, wine making and enjoying wine. She is really good fun too, with a great, if not wicked, sense of humour. Though it was a tour it felt more like a day out with a newly found 'chum' We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and would highly recommend.

Highly recommend! Our guide, Danelle, was friendly and knowledgeable. We learned so much about the region, the wines, and the history. We visited three vineyards for tasting, plus a beautiful vineyard restaurant for lunch. It was a wonderful day!

Danelle picked us up early (10 am) at Sunday morning and treated us to a full day of excellent wine and food. She really knows the area, its viticulture and the various estates and their distinctive character. On top of having selected some excellent wines for us to taste together with good food, she also walked us through the tastings with great knowledge as well as lot of funny and informative anecdotes. Spending a day tasing wine and food with Danelle was like hanging out with friend you haven’t seen for a long time and who knows everything there is about the local wine, so all in all an excellent day. Extra points for suggesting, and helping getting a reservation, at a really nice restaurant in Stellenbosch. Would give 6 stars if possible.

A terrific tour with Aylmer - who was very personable and knowledgeable. I know a decent amount about wine and he taught me a trick or two and pitched the tour perfectly. He also got the wineries to open a couple of bottles they wouldn’t normally have for general tasting, which was a nice touch.

My husband, a girlfriend of ours and I travelled to South Africa for a 2 week visit (I am originally from South Africa) and we went on a full day private tour from Stellenbosch. It was a fantastic tour and we all enjoyed every minute of it. Our guide was Aylmer and he was excellent! He is so personable, made us a laugh a lot, and provided so much info about the area. He is also very knowledgeable about wine. We felt like the tour was so personalized, nothing was rushed and and each winery we stopped at, he seemed to add a personal touch, even extending the wine tasting experience beyond just hearing the info from the wine farm staff about the wines.

We had a fantastic day with Danielle who took us to three lovely Stellenbosch wineries: Neethlingshof, L’Avenir, and Spier. The wines were outstanding and the food pairings were so good. Going to try to make a few when I get home. Danielle is brilliant at providing the historical background necessary to understand the region as well as provide the science behind the wine making. This tour was a highlight of our time in West Cape. Thank you, Danielle!

We were very fortunate to have Danielle take us on a tour of three vineyards in Stellenbosch for a day. The area is so beautiful. The wine is excellent. The day was made perfect by Danielle however. She blends the history of the region with her expansive knowledge of the area’s wine offerings to provide you with an experience you will never forget. I have been marrying my wine to the glass ever since the tour! Danielle is a fantastic tour guide and I cannot thank her enough for making our day so special.

My husband and I signed up for a group full-day wine tour as part of our honeymoon. Danielle came to pick us up at our bed and breakfast and to our surprise, we were the only ones on the tour! So we ended up with a private tour. Danielle took the time to get to know our tastes and preferences in wine to plan our day. We went to three AMAZING wineries- all different experiences and ambiances but all beautiful with great services and wines. The three we visited were Delaire Graff Estate, Anthonij Rupert, and Moreson. We had lunch at Moreson and it was delicious! Danielle was such a pleasure and one of the best tour guides we had. She was so knowledgable about wines and tastings. We learned so much. She is also funny and a great time! We enjoyed her company for most of the trip, but she also gave us a good amount of alone time. Danielle was also AMAZING at taking pictures. We had so many great pictures at each winery, which was so appreciated. In addition, she was not pushy with having us buy wine, which was very refreshing. At the end of our trip, we agreed that this day was one of the highlights. I definitely want to come back to Cape Town wine lands, using Danielle as our tour guide again!
