A Via Ferrata, which means “iron way” in Italian, is a method of mountaineering & rock climbing that’s been used in Europe for centuries. Via Ferrata courses use a combination of ladders, rungs, rails, cables and bridges to aid in moving across and up a cliff face. The Iron Way in Idaho Springs is an assisted rock climbing guided tour where guests clip into cables that run along the side of a cliff. They then move along a designated path of iron rungs and bridges to move across, and along the way they will be required to clip in and out of the cable to progress through the course. This is made possible through an advanced internal locking system in the carabiners. Each guest will have 2 carabiners connected to bungee-style lanyards on their harness. The internal locking system makes it impossible to clip out of both at the same time, insuring that climbers are connected to the cable of the course at all times.

Our family of five (kids ages 12-18) did the Granite Via Ferrata course in Buena Vista and loved it! It includes 4 zip lines, a free fall, a rappel, aerial obstacles and climbing. Our guides, Andy and Olivia, were super fun, engaging with our kids, encouraging and just awesome! I researched other companies and courses and am so glad we chose this one as the course had such an exciting combination of elements and awesome guides that gave us a great experience!

We had so much fun! Our guides were Olivia, Jess, Bus, and Andy. The experience is well-worth the money. Ziplines, cable/rock obstacles, freefall platform, and rappelling all included. Bring water! You can hook it to your harness. You can also bring your phone and take pics when you're able...just keep in a secure pocket.

We had an exceptional experience at AVA. We did the Via Ferrata course in the morning with Spencer and Emma. They were encouraging and fun! They obviously enjoy their job. The course was so amazing and my 12 year old son and I had a blast! We did white water rafting with Jill in the afternoon and, again, our expectations were exceeded! It was a beautiful course that was a great blend of peacefulness and adventure. We felt safe the entire trip and well cared for. All of the staff at the outpost were equally friendly and informative. We would highly highly recommend this company for any of their trips and we hope to come back with the rest of our family in the future!

CODY and ERNIE are amazing zipline and climbing guides. The company was very nice place to go and a great organization to use. I was very happy with both the whitewater rafting and climbing. COLD WATER!!!!!! Prepare for that if going in July. I am gay and let me tell you, I had a crush on both of these boys (assuming boy is proper to use for at least one of the guides).

This was SO MUCH FUN!! We had a BLAST! Our guides kept us safe, but made sure we had a great time. The views were AMAZING and the Ferrata itself was challenging but not difficult. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We are pretty experienced in doing via ferrata, so this via ferrata was good and not terribly difficult. The nice thing about it is, the tour included ziplines and some obstacle courses. It also included a rappell and a freefall… if you have never done via ferrata, this is a good beginning course and I would highly recommend it.

We had an amazing time on this via ferrata. Our family of 7 ranged in age 13 to 66. We all had a blast. It was challenging, but incredibly fun. The equipment is good quality. Our guides, TJ and Spencer were excellent at keeping it fun and safe. There are alternate routes for a few obstacles, so those who want to take a slightly easier route have the option to do so, while still having fun. Highly recommended.

This experience was a once in a lifetime experience. We had Shawn and Nate as our guides. They were so encouraging and patient with those of us who were terrified! We were so happy our family got to experience this together!
