Make sure you bring 30 Monat for the ride to the mountain village. It’s totally worth it! I’ve been doing tours all over Europe and multiple in Baku but Leyla has been the most genuinely happy and enthusiastic guide I’ve met! She really made the experience worthwhile and even took great pics for me!

This was a breathtaking, exhilarating, and unforgettable trip! Ruslan, our guide and our designated driver for the day, was brilliant. Not only was he knowledgeable, but he was also most charming, friendly, spoke good English, and was a cautious and safe driver as the roads to Xinaliq were treacherous! He knew all the right places to take us to, which had clean loos and made timely stops for coffee and refreshments. He was most patient, and the fact that there are so many pictures of us is only because he patiently took our pictures. He was so well informed about this region and was able to answer all our questions, even those that were outside of this tour. It was a very long trip where we drove over 500 km, and we were out for a full 11 hours. This is a MUST DO tour for all, and it was so exciting to visit Xinaliq, the oldest village in the world, which is a heritage village. We were also fortunate to see and hold a meteor in the museum there at a height of over 7000 feet! Since this is a heritage village, UNESCO does not permit any hotels or restaurants to be present in the village, so there are homestays and home meals with the local villagers. I have never eaten such fresh food, and it was finger-licking delicious. The freshly baked hot bread straight from the wood oven completed the meal of delicious Shorba, beef curry with potatoes, rice, and Chicken drumsticks with assorted pickles as accompaniments. The scrumptious meal ended with tea and fresh preserves made from plums, persimmons, and pears, which also went very well with the hot bread.

Great tour! Khinaliq is a cant miss and worth the circuitous drive up. I had low expectations for the included lunch but it was surprisingly good. Leyla was a great guide- eloquent and detailed in her explanations and answers. She was on time (early in fact) herself and did her best to manage an obnoxious group that was constantly late. She took very good pictures- directing participants to the best spots.
