Holy Monastery of Saint John the Theologian
Our journey begins with a visit to the Monastery of St. John the Theologian, a magnificent structure resembling a Byzantine castle. Founded in 1088 by Ossios Christodoulos under the patronage of Byzantine Emperor Alexios I. Komnenos, this imposing monastery stands as a fortress on the island of Patmos. The monastery's walls, soaring over 15 meters high, define dimensions of 53 meters from north to south and 70 meters from east to west, creating an awe-inspiring presence. The Monastery of St. John the Theologian offers a journey into history and spirituality. As you explore its grounds, you'll witness the architectural marvels that have endured for centuries.

A wonderful look around the island of Patmos. Very knowledgeable about the island and all the history. It was great being able to wander and spend time as we needed at the cave and monastery,

Jason was very detailed oriented regarding information on where we went. I am grateful and appreciative on all the knowledge of St. John, the Monastery and cave we went to go see. (Mike was a great driver stopping at where/what we wanted to see) Patmos is beautiful and peaceful-maybe someday to come back. Thank you!

Jason knew everything about Patmos because he made the map! He customized it for us and made sure we saw everything we wanted to.

We had an excellent, memorable tour of the Cave of the Apocalypse and Monastery of St John the Theologian provided by our guide, Rafael. These sights are not to be missed if you are on Patmos or can arrange a trip to the Island. Ask for Rafael - he is fluent in English and shares his deep knowledge of the historical, cultural and religious significance of the sites and their surroundings. Our visit was greatly enriched by the information he shared about some of the "star" objects in the Monastery Treasury (e.g., a velum Codex with pages dyed Imperial purple, written in silver.) - we would never have developed the same appreciation for it without his explanation. Rafael is also patient - giving us time and space to marvel at what we saw. We topped off the tour with stroll around Chora, the village surrounding the Monastery. I would recommend this experience to anyone.

Jason was very personable & thorough in his knowledge about the monastery & St John’s cave. We are so glad we spent the extra money to do a private tour!! It was worth every penny! We were a group of 4 & didn’t ever feel pressured to hurry. We were even able to sit down in the cave for a few minutes for silent prayer! It was an incredible experience, & I would highly recommend!!

Vera was a wonderful guide - so knowledgeable and flexible to allow us to tour at our own pace and explained so much about Patmos. loved the monastery and the view from the windmills. The Chora town was so sweet and relaxing to stroll through.

My wife and I went to Patmos in September 2023, for 1 day as part of a cruise (Azamera) adventure. It was one of the most important and anticipated parts of the trip. I wanted to see the cave in which John dictated Revelations, which became the last chapter of the Bible. I enjoyed the bus excursion around the island.

We went on our own. It was great. Absolutely no need to book the tour. We just payed the entry fee which is labelled as a donation, had plenty of time to see the places and did not have to listen to lengthy explanations by a tour guide.

An interesting tour where we even got to see the mayor, I think our guide planned it special, lol. We enjoyed our time on Patmos , and after our tour had a great lunch in town. Having a private guide gives you so much information on the history surrounding you that you just don't get when viewing on your own
