What To Expect

Step into the mystical underground world of the Magellan Cave on this guided caving excursion in Armenia’s Areni region. First discovered in 1940 by Magellan Arakelyan, a local who stumbled upon it while hunting in the Noravank Canyon near Areni village, the cave remained unexplored until 1980, when caving experts mapped its entire 1,385-meter length. You’ll explore 350 meters of the cave, venturing through winding limestone corridors and witnessing fossil specimens, stalactites, and stalagmites. As you navigate this out-and-back trail, your expert guide will share fascinating insights into the cave’s history and geology. Whether you're a nature lover or an adventure seeker, this 30-minute cave tour offers a unique opportunity to experience Armenia’s subterranean beauty firsthand.

Impressive cave experience, you can have the guided tour for 3,000 drams and it takes aprox 30 minutes. It was a very interesting and different experience, the guide was very knowledgeable, great English communication, explaining the formations of the cave, showing interesting findings and is open for questions, all while having a positive vibe and great attitude. Inside the cave is really cold, so is recommended to take a jacket, but if you forget they will provide a blanket :)
