Experience the beauty and seclusion of the Marlborough Sounds on this 4 hour half day guided sea kayak tour. Your tour takes in the western end of the Queen Charlotte Sound with its sheltered coves, beautiful beaches, azure blue waters and lush native bush. Learn about the history of the area from your knowledgeable, relaxed and friendly guides.
On any given day, you have a good chance of seeing sting rays and eagle rays, a huge variety of sea birds including cormorants and sometimes little blue penguins, seals, huge starfish and if we are really lucky, even dolphins.
We have small groups with 1 Guide per 8 people kayaking.

5.00Kayaking in Queen Charlotte Sound was an incredible experience from start to finish. I travelled with my two children (aged 10 and 12), and as first-time kayakers we felt completely at ease and well supported the entire time. Before arrival, all our questions were answered promptly via chat, which already gave us confidence in how well organised the team was. On the day, everything ran smoothly and professionally. Our main guide was Madeline (apologies for forgetting the other guides’ names), and they were absolutely wonderful—calm, friendly, attentive, and incredibly reassuring. We kayaked approximately 10 km over about 2 hours and 18 minutes. The group included people of various ages and abilities, and the guides made sure everyone was comfortable, safe, and well looked after throughout. Despite it being our first time, we were able to relax and truly enjoy the experience at our own pace. On the return trip, we were taken back by van, and our guide shared fascinating insights about the local settlements and history, including how Queen Charlotte Sound got its name. The storytelling was engaging and informative—an unexpected but lovely bonus to an already amazing day. Every part of the experience felt thoughtful, professional, and welcoming. We loved how at ease the team made us feel, especially with children, and how well organised everything was. We loved every bit of this experience and would absolutely come back to do it again. Highly recommended to families, first-timers, and anyone wanting a peaceful yet memorable adventure.

5.00Madison & Jake are very knowledgeable, helpful, and understanding. Other supportive staff are helpful too! We have a safe, fun, informative kayaking experience in Picton, NZ. We saw stingrays, jellyfish, birds, etc. The waves just made kayaking more exciting Thank you!! ❤️

5.00Really fun and great experience if you are looking for adventure, good views, and exploring a new area. Knowledgable guides who teach you how to kayak and teach you the local history well. Would recommend for those who have a moderate fitness level. We kayaked for around 10km. The views were worth it. Make sure to go bathroom beforehand!!! You don't get wet too much but definitely wear flip flops.

5.00We had a wonderful experience on our kayak tour with our guide, Madison. She navigated us safely through the Marlborough Sounds and made the whole trip both relaxing and informative. The views were stunning, and we learned a lot along the way. Be aware that the tour can be quite a workout — it’s great training for your arms. And don’t forget sunscreen and plenty of water — with those essentials, you’re guaranteed to have an amazing time!
